A Blast From The Past || Eniola Akindele || Episode Eight.

A Blast From The Past.
By: Miss Eniola Akindele
Episode Eight.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm here to see my husband please.
Name ma'am?
Ben, Bernard Justice.
Okay ma'am, one minute please.
The third room on your left, up the stairs.
Thank you.
Mary made her way up and stopped.
I should see the doctor first..she thought.
No, go see your husband first.
As she moved closer towards the third room.
She heard little whispers.
She recognised the voice.
Bayo's.
Using her left ear, she leaned on the door and listened.
Dear God, I heard what my mommy told my daddy.
Please don't punish my daddy for not looking for my mommy when she left, forgive my mommy for leaving the village without telling my daddy, forgive my grandparents for sending my mommy away.
Please heal my mommy and my daddy.
My second mommy and my daddy are always fighting because of me, sometimes, she calls me devil but I know that the devil is in the hell fire, I have forgiven my second mommy, now please help my second mommy to forgive my daddy too and let us all go home safely. Amen.
That was all Mary needed to hear, she opened the door gently to see Bayo rising from where he knelt.
Mommy! Bayo screamed and ran towards her, Mary went on her knees to receive him, with tears in her eyes and pain in her heart, she hugged him tightly.
Daddy said I can call you mommy.
Mary couldn't even talk, she just nodded.
There you have it, the truth
You couldn't believe it from Ben's mouth, you just had to believe it from someone else
Yes Lord, forgive me, I've been so callous, I thought he cheated on me because I can't conceive.
You will, the promise of the saints are received by faith.
Yes Lord.
Have faith, daughter of Zion
I believe father.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Bernard had opened his eyes when Bayo screamed.
Thank you Lord..he whispered, observing the two as they had their moment.
Just then, the doctor walked in.
Bayo, why don't wait in my office while I talk to daddy and mommy.
Okay sir. Mary released Bayo as he made his way out.
Mrs Justice, your husband will be fine, we just need to observe him for a day or two.
Mary's heart leaped for joy.
But..the doctor continued, We lost Miss Wura this morning, she died in her sleep. I'm sorry.
What? Mary screamed.
She wanted you to have this, the doctor handed a red little bowtie to Mary.
Mr Justice, please get some rest, excuse me.

I didn't even get the chance to tell her what a wonderful warrior she has been.
I treated her so badly, I hated her, O Lord, this is not who you raised me to be! I'm so sorry, so sorry Lord!
Moving closer to Ben's side, she knelt and held his feet.
I'm sorry Ben for everything.
I'm just so sorry, I was caught up and didn't know who or what to believe.
Look Mary, I don't blame you, I blame myself for being so secretive about my past, all you can do now is to honour Wura by accepting Bayo as your own, she at least, deserves that from you.
I already have, Ben when I was listening to him outside, he's such a wonderful boy.
But how do we tell him about this? Mary questioned as she raised the red bow tie.
One step at a time dear.
One step.

A home that was almost at the edge of destruction.
A heart that was shattered by the news of a betrayal.
A young soul that needed peace and love to reign.
A sick heart that earnest hoped for the salvation of another.
A lustful spirit that wanted to explore a confused mind and hurting heart.
And a regretful soul that wished the hands of time could go back.
He knows All!
He Handled All!
Just like the lyrics of this song.
He knows your name,
He knows your every thought,
He sees each tears that fall and He hears you when you call.🎼
He sure knows!

A Blast From The Past || Eniola Akindele || Episode Seven

Mary's thought was interrupted by her secretary.
Ma'am, Mr Etim is here to see you.
Let him in please.
Hello Mary, Etim greeted.
Mary looked up, suprised at the sound of her name.
O don't be surprised, I thought you preferred Mary to Mrs Justice.
Yes but I'm still married to him.
Okay then.
Speaking of marriage, has he signed it yet?
No, he refused to sign.
Mary's thought began to drift again.
What's on your mind?
Never mind, it's my problem.
C'mon Mary, you know I care, your problems are mine too. If this is about your husband then don't get yourself worked up because it will be over soon.
Etim stood and walked over to Mary's side, held her hands and pulled her up.
So tell me, what's bothering you?
Fine! He didn't come home last night nor the night before, he took his son out on saturday and since then, he hasn't showed up.
Are you worried?
No, why should I?
Lies, you're lying Mary
I'm just curious, it's unlike him, I know my husband, he'll never spend a night out let alone two.
Etim smiled.
Don't worry about him, he probably needs some time alone.
Maybe you're right, she added.
You look exceptionally beautiful today.
Thank you.
Stop this, you know this is wrong. the voice whispered to Mary.
Etim kissed her right hand.
You're welcome dear.
Mary this is wrong, listen to me, I will not allow you to be tempted above what you can bear.
Etim moved closer, sliding his hands round her waist and locking them.
You know I've always admired you.
Marriage is honourable and the bed undefiled but whoremogers and adultrers I will judge.
Mary began to feel unease.
She carefully removed his hands.
I'm still married to Ben.
For the first time in forever, she heard herself call her husband's name.
No need to worry Mary, we both know I want you badly, like so bad.
No! Just stop please!
Sorry to disturb you ma, Sarah said.
What is it?
One Miss Wura wants to talk to you.
Mary frowned.
That witch! What does she want?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's been forty-eight hours since Wura called, informing Mary about her husband's accident. She paced up and down the living room as Wura's words echoed in her ears again.
Your husband is in the same hospital with me and he's badly injured but Bayo is okay, he wants to see you.
Mrs Justice, I'm sorry about how you feel and I just to let you know that, I'm sincerely sorry.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So he went to the hospital that day to be with his first love?
Will you just stop this drama?
I just knew he was up to something!
No Mary, he choose to go because of Bayo
And how do you know that?
Because I'm the Spirit of truth
Truth? Mary asked
Yes
Then why haven't you revealed the truth about what's going on?
Because you never asked me.
It hit Mary hard, it's true, I haven't bothered asking you about it, with that, she went on her knees and prayed.
I'm sorry for shutting you out Lord, I'm sorry for being so mad and hurtful. I was pained Lord, he cheated on me and made a foul of my trust and love for him.I don't believe Ben.
Please reveal the truth to me, please Lord.
I will instruct you in the way you should go.
She smiled.
Rise, go see your husband and there I will revel the truth you so seek.
Quickly, Mary grabbed her purse and keys and dashed out.

Remember, never, ever, shut out the One who is able to save and to deliver.
What needless pain she bore, things wouldn't have gotten worse if she'd just asked and then forgiveness would have been easy on her part.

Next episode coming right up...

A Blast From The Past || Eniola Akindele || Episode Six.

Bernard looked over Wura's pale body and wondered what had happened to her over the years.
It's cervical cancer and it's gone wild, she came in late for treatment, we can slow it's progress but we can't stop it, I'm sorry Mr Justice. The doctors words rang in his ears again.

Ben quietly held her hands but wasn't careful enough, she opened her eyes.
Hi, Bernard greeted.
Copper Justice, she said smiling.
Wura, I'm no more a copper, just call me Ben.
I know, she coughed.
Where's Bayo?
In the doctor's office.
You shouldn't have brought him, I don't want him to see me like this, he's too young.
I know but he requested to see you today.
Hmmmmm, I'm sure you must be wondering why I left without saying goodbye.
But why Wura? Why did you leave like that. I had great plans for us.
I was young Ben, and I knew I could never fit in to your standard, you're a graduate!
I wanted to finish school like you, wanted to wear that uniform too.
Wura, you could have told me.
I couldn't because I knew you won't let me go, you were desperate for a partner, a wife and I wasn't ready.
Why didn't you tell me you were pregnant?
Wura smiled softly.
I never knew myself until I was two months gone.
What?
Yes Ben, I searched everywhere for you, It was then I learnt that you had completed your service.
My parents abandoned me when they knew I was pregnant, they thought I had gone into prostitution since I couldn't provide the father of my baby.
I'm deeply sorry Wura, I'm sorry for not searching for you, for putting you through these mess. I'm so sorry you had to go through it all alone.
Stop being sorry, Wura gently hit him.
I forgave you decades ago, Bayo has been my joy, I don't know if I'll get through this but please, don't abandon him.
Wura, I will never, ever loose him.
Thank you Ben, how is your wife holding up?
Well, she still doesn't believe me but I've decided to...
They were interrupted by Bayo's tiny cry.
You left my mommy alone? Bayo asked.
No, no, not at all. Bernard rushed to his side by the door.
Wura tried sitting up, her arms stretched forth to receive her son. Bayo ran into her embrace and cried the more.
Wura couldn't fight her tears, she let it pour.
I'm not going home again, I will stay here with my mommy.
No you can't, you will go home with daddy because I'm coming home soon.
Wura cleaned her tears before bayo looked up.
Are you sure?
Of course.
Daddy let's pray for mommy.
Bernard quickly rushed to their side, the three held hands and poured their heart out to God.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As they drove back home, Bernard's heart was heavy and bayo was staring out the window.
Is Wura really going to make it through? he wondered.
O Lord, she doesn't deserve death.
There is a time to every purpose under heaven.
What are you trying to say?
Will she live?
If not for anything, do it for Bayo.
You can heal cancer right?
Right
Then do it for your perf..
Unaware of an incoming vehicle, Bernard smashed into it and boom!
Daaaddddddyyyyyy! He heard his son scream.
Oh No!😱
What now?
Forgive while you still can. The next minute might just be impossible!
Let go of all that hurt and forgive.
Forgivness isn't for the one who offended. It's for you!
A Blast From The Past || Eniola Akindele. || Episode Five.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Why aren't you doing anything Lord? Bernard asked
Because you're fighting it yourself
I'm not, I'm just trying to bring Mary back to her senses.
Son, she's hurting so bad, you denied her the whole truth about your mistakes and you haven't even handed it all to me
I have, I asked you to please end this war
Yes you did but regrets and hate fills your heart.*
That hate has rendered your prayers useless. You hate yourself for the decision you made years back and unforgiveness lurks within your soul
But father, your sacrifice is a broken heart and a contrite spirit
True, but you've dwelt too long on your mistakes, I forgave you a long time ago, you need to forgive yourself.
How can she forgive you when you haven't forgiven yourself, let go of those regret son because I do not condemn you
I'm your God, the God of all flesh, is there anything too hard for me to do?
No Lord.
Good
Smiling to himself, Bernard turned on his side, closed his eyes and basked in the comfort of the Holy-Spirit knowing fully well that God had taken over the battle.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bernard was dishing out breakfast when he heard his name.
Mr Bernard, can i see my mommy today?
Ben turned back and lifted the boy up in his hands.
Yes you can but first, no more Mr Bernard. I'm your dad so you get to call me daddy.
Really?
Yes really.
But Mrs Mary will be mad.
O no, she won't because you will have to call her mommy too.
Bayo's face lit up with laughter.
So i have two mommies?
Yes you do.
Both father and son laughed heartily and ended with high fives.
Now let's get this food to the dining before mommy wakes up.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mary heard noises and decided to check what was going on.
Sighting Mary, Bernard greeted, Morning hon.
Good morning ma..followed a tiny voice.
Morning.. Mary replied.
Are the papers signed yet?
I made us breakfast, i'm sure you must be famished, though it doesn't look good but trust me it taste great. Bernard said beaming with smiles.
Bayo chuckled and coughed twice.
I'm a great cook, been cooking way before you were born, boy.
Mary couldn't help but smile, quickly, she adjusted when Bernard caught her.
*See?* the gentle voice whispered.
Bernard walked up to his wife and held her face in his hands.
It's a free world Mary, smile and be happy.
Mary jerked his hands off her face and walked away.
Still smiling, Bernard took his car keys, held bayo by the hand and shouted after Mary.
See you soon hon!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What has come over this man? Mary asked herself as she cleared the mess her husband had made in the kitchen.
What happened to him overnight?
He cried like a baby yesterday and today I see a glowing man.
Mary smiled at the joke he made at the dining.
He's such a terrible cook.
She let out a laugh as she remembered the meal her husband over salted while they still courted.
Is this man trying to play games with me?
Abi he has signed those papers ni?
No, he said he loves me too much.
Marcy glanced at the dining.
There's no way I'm eating that food.
Try it
She knew that voice.
She missed that voice.
That gentle voice has been quiet and rarely spoke.
But today he did and she wondered why.
*Try the food*
He spoke again.
Mary smiled and headed for the dining.
Dear readers, don't assume, assumption is risky, Don't assume God knows.
He actually knows, He sees, He hears, hears what you have to say.
Bernard handed over the worries and God gave his peace and assurance.
When we learn to talk to God about everything He already knows..He gives us peace in that storm.
You will loose sight of the storm and all you will see is Him!
So, will Mary still stay with her husband?
Does she even still want the divorce?
I'm guessing...
Find out from the next episode...
A Blast From The Past || Miss Eniola Akindele || Episode Four.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Wuraola laid still on the hospital bed and remembered how she finally found Bernard's home address, how she waited outside their gate with Bayo for Bernard on a hot sunday afternoon. She remembered the look on his wife's face when she presented bayo as their son.
O God, what havoc have i caused in their home now?
*You did the right thing dear.*
She remembered her own very words.
Copper Justice, I know you're not expecting to see me ever again but there's nowhere i can put your son..our son.
I'm sick and i need you to please take and keep Bayo, he's yours.

O Lord, can Bernard's wife ever accept Bayo?
Bayo needs a home and why drop him in an orphanage when he still has a father.

With Wura's closed eyes, the memory of how she left okutun village flooded her mind , her mother had insisted she finished her education in the city and unknowing to her, she left the village with Bernard's little seed growing in her, left without saying goodbye to copper Justice.
She opened her eyes to look at her pale palm and wondered why God has decided to cut her life short.
*I'm your refuge and strength Wura.*
Yea right!
Strength indeed, I'm here and my son is in that house with a woman who would never accept him as her own.
*Is it not I that worketh in man both to will and do my good pleasure?*
And when exactly will that be Lord?
I don't want Bayo to suffer, just restore my health and I'll be able to take care of my son myself!
*Wura, It is good for you to hope and quietly wait for my salvation.*
I'm waiting, I don't have a choice, just please fight for me.
*I am, just hold your peace*
With that, wura smilled and drifted off.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was six years ago Bernard began, sitting at the edge of Mary's bed while Mary stood afar.
I met Wuraola in the village where I served as a primary school teacher.
*Choose your words wisely* the Spirit advised.
We were attracted to each other and one thing led to another.
*Good.* the Spirit whispered again.
All through my university days, I never kept a partner, never had a love relationship and God had been faithful in preserving me but somewhere along the line I missed it.
I was already in my service year and God was silent about my marital life, I got scared, my mates were either engaged or married and no lady was forth coming except Wura so I decided to plan my future with her.
I found out later that she left the village and I've never seen or heard from her until she showed up at our gate with a boy.
Mary sniffed and asked the most important question.
Did you sleep with her?
Mary, you have to understand, it was not intentional.
Did you! Mary's voice shook with rage
Yes.
Yes I did and I'm sorry!
It was mistake!
Mary turned to face her husband who was now soaked in his own tears.
Was it before or after the doctor told us I won't be able to conceive?
No! Mary please I haven't even met you when all these happened, I'm telling the truth!
The truth? Do you, in your wildest imagination think I'll buy your story?
You're such a brilliant liar!
Ben went on his two knees.
Believe me Mary, Heaven is my witness
Don't you dare bring God into your mess!
Believe you?
Then why didn't you ever tell me about her before we married?
While we courted, I was completely honest with you, told you all about my past and secrets..why didn't you tell me about yours!!
Mary, I thought it all ended when she left the village, I thought it didn't matter anymore, I never knew she was pregnant.
Liar! you're nothing but a wicked soul!
You knew the doctor's report about my condition then you went all out to save your head, right?
No Mary, I love you and always will, I would never do anything to tear us apart.
You made this story up, please, just tell me the damn truth!
I am! This is just a blast from my past, believe me and let us trust God together to get through this please.
Leave my room, I need to be alone right now!
Bernard looked up surprised.
Get out or I will leave this house this minute!
Slowly like a sinful child, Bernard got up from where he knelt and headed for the door.
I love you Mary and that is why I will never sign those papers.
Mary closed her watery eyes and slammed the door.
Dear readers, it is said sometimes that, let your past remain in the past.
True, but not when you're about to begin a whole new world with your partner.
Now, who doesn't have a past?
But let's not forget the important point here: Bernard never had partner nor a love relationship, he grew worried and missed it.
Who, by worrying can add just one cubit to his stature?
None!
Worries takes away the hopes and helps you concentrate on the fears.
Remember, all things are working together for your good right now.
Hold still and keep believing. I tell you, you won't be ashamed in the name of Jesus.
Watch out for the next episode...
A BLAST FROM THE PAST || Eniola Akindele || Episode Three.
A Blast From The Past.
By: Miss Eniola Akindele.
Episode Three.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Let us share the grace in fellowship...
As they rose up to do so, Bernard gazed at the alter where he tied the knot with his wife and prayed silently.
Bro Ben..you look different today
Why won't i, after I've been dished with a hot slap by my very own wife..he reasoned to himself
Yes pastor, things are not looking funny anymore.
Don't worry bro Ben, God will certainty see you through, I believe God for a miracle concerning Mary's heart and i want you to know that we're praying for the peace of your home.
Thank you pastor, I believe God too and i know there's a reason why He brought this boy to me.
Pastor Mike looked down at the young lad, placed his hands on him and blessed him.
Looking up he said,
Be strong in the Lord and the power of His might, I perceive God is about to take you through a phase.
They prayed together and said their goodbyes
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mary was busy arranging her things into her new room when she heard her husband's horn hooting at the gate.
Mtchewww he should have slept outside.
Glancing at the wall clock, she headed to the kitchen to make dinner for herself.
Hello hon. I'm home
Bernard announced his arrival but when his announcement was met with a complete silence. He continued.
What are we having for dinner?
We? Mary asked turning around
You and who?
The three of us now.
Mary looked at the little boy with disdain.
You mean the devil and his father?
Bernard frowned..
You really have to stop calling him names, he is a little child and he has done nothing to you.
With that statement, Mary's anger rose..
He has done everything to me; both of you!
Ben moved closer to her, close enough to hold her hands in his.
I'm sorry for not telling you about Wura but your inability to bear a child is not because of him and due time God will give us our own.
Mary pulled out.
My inability?
So it has become my inability and not our inability? Tears gathered up in her eyes
You know that's not what i meant.
Oh, i know just exactly what you mean, he's your child now how could i ever forget that.
Mary please.
Look here Mr man, i've found my own alternative.
Alternative? Ben asked.
Mary threw the brown envelop at him.
Read and sign.
Ben carefully opened the envelope, not sure of what's in it.
His eyebrow rose as he read the contents.
No Mary, please don't do this!
Do what!
Don't destroy us.
Mary scoffed, enjoying the look on her husband's face
You started this, you started destroying us when staying faithful to your marital vows became impossible for you.
Mary I never cheated on you, even during our courtship you were all I had and all I still have.
O really? Then how do you explain that thing on the chair...Mary pointed to bayo.
Bernard stood transfixed, not sure of how many times he would tell her the same story over again.
Mary hissed, sign the papers please!
Dear readers, who else is getting the picture?
Nothing hurts more than when a woman's love is trampled upon and rubbished.
Are you thinking what I'm thinking?
A Blast From The Past.
By: Miss Eniola Akindele
Episode Two.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sarah's voice brought Mary back to planet earth.
Ma!
Mary jerked, sorry, what was it you were saying?
I said there's a call for you on the second line from one Mr Etim ma'am.
That's my lawyer and please tell Sam to go pick that devil from school
Devil? Sarah asked
Yes devil! Mary shouted, slamming her fist on the table.
I don't understand ma.
Idiot! Just fetch Sam for me.
Okay ma, Sarah hurriedly left her office.

Hello Mr Etim
Hello Mrs Justice, I was just about to bri..
Please don't call me that, Mary said, cutting him short.
I'm Mary, just Mary.
Mr Etim laughed over the phone
I understand you're anxious to get this over and done with but until the divorce papers is signed by both of you, you still bear Mrs Justice.
As i was saying, Mr Etim continued..
The papers are ready
What papers?
Your divorce papers ma'am.
Oh! Mary smiled feeling excited
So should i drop them at your office or come straight home?
The word 'home' hit Mary like a rock.
She remembered a particular hymn they often sang together, "God give us Christian homes"
Well, that home is about to crash.
Hello, Mrs Justice are you still there?
It is not in a man that walketh to direct his ways. Hand it over to me Mary, let me heal you, let me heal your home
The ever soft, ever comforting known voice spoke to Mary.
No!
No? What do you mean?
I'm sorry i wasn't talking to you, bring the papers to the house.
Mary deliberately avoided the word 'home'
Okay then expect me by 4pm and he hung up
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Madam, you say make them call me.
Yes, it's 2pm already, you know what to do
Sam smiled.
Madam no need for me to go again.
And why is that? Mary asked
Oga don go pick bayo hinsef.
Mary looked up from her desk and gave him the most hateful look of the century.
Sorry madam, i min oga don go pick devil hinsef.
Better! you can go, dismissing him with a wave of her hand.
So he even had the guts to pick that devil up, after the the sorrow he brought upon us.
Foolish man, i wonder what i saw in him in the first place, mtchewwww good radiance to bad rubbish!
Dear readers, all I see is hate, hate, hate and regrets!
Why is she so hateful?
What really happened to the love Mary professed for her husband?
The verse: to love and to cherish till death do part. Did it make any meaning to her at all?
Let's find out.
A Blast From The Past || Eniola Akindele || Episode 0ne.
Bernard had just finished a slice of bread and was about to pick up his cup of tea when suddenly mary's hand landed on his face...Gbam!
For a second he stood glued on the spot trying to relate what just happened.
He felt the affected part of his face with his own palm, anger written all over him.
How dare you! how dare you hi...
I will do it again, useless man!
You are here eating and drinking!
Do you realize the gravity of what you did?
Calm down Ben, the spirit man whispered softly to his heart.
He raised his right hand to inflict the same pain he felt on his wife only to be stopped by the continuous plead he received from within, deep down beyond the anger, pain and hate was this silent whisper of love, forgiveness and patience.
Oh, you want to revenge abi?
Oya do it, kuku take that knife and end me! End this rubbish!
Mary motioned for the kitchen knife.
But bernard clenched his fist, closed his eyes, took a deep breath, opened them again and walked out of the kitchen.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I Mary Okafor do take you Bernard Justice as my lawful wedded husband, to love and to cherish, through good and bad till death do us part. Mary said as she gently inserted the shiny silver ring on-to her husband's finger, smiling, they gently held on to each other.
Bernard stared at the same wedding ring and wondered how things turned sour.

Flashing back, he remembered the moments they shared, their courtship, the wedding, the honey moon and the beautiful years they've spent together.
He glanced at their bedroom which almost looked like a desert, Mary's closet was empty, she had completely packed out of the bedroom and who knows, maybe out of his life too.
Lord, end this war! he said aloud
It is good for a man to patiently hope for the salvation of the Lord
He closed his eyes and whispered..
I will wait Lord.

Now, dear readers, it's important to note that in this episode, Bernard could not caution/control himself, all he needed to do was to obey the continuous voice of the Holy Spirit.
Thank God he did.

When you've totally made up your mind and you're are the at verge of doing something wrong, have you ever experienced the continuous pleading of the Holy Spirit not to?
Obedience the bible says, is better than sacrifice and to harken than the fat of rams.

Let's see what happens in the next episode....
