Short Story; Work But Live

Mr. Ade was a hardworking man who delivered bread as a living to support his wife and three children. He spent all his evenings after work attending classes, hoping to improve himself so that he could one day find a better paying job. Except for Sundays, Mr. Ade hardly ate a meal together with his family. He worked and studied very hard because he wanted to provide his family with the best money could buy.
Whenever the family complained that he was not spending enough time with them, he reasoned that he was doing all this for them. But he often yearned to spend more time with his family.

The day came when the examination results were announced. To his joy, Mr. Ade passed, and with distinctions too! Soon after, he was offered a good job as a senior supervisor which paid handsomely.
Like a dream come true, Mr. Ade could now afford to provide his family with life’s little luxuries like nice clothing, fine food and vacation abroad.
However, the family still did not get to see father for most of the week. He continued to work very hard, hoping to be promoted to the position of manager. In fact, to make himself a worthily candidate for the promotion, he enrolled for another course in the open university.

Again, whenever the family complained that he was not spending enough time with them, he reasoned that he was doing all this for them. But he often yearned to spend more time with his family.
Mr.Ade’s hard work paid off and he was promoted. Jubilantly, he decided to hire a maid to relieve his wife from her domestic tasks. He also felt that their three-room flat was no longer big enough, it would be nice for his family to be able to enjoy the facilities and comfort of a condominium. Having experienced the rewards of his hard work many times before, Mr. Ade resolved to further his studies and work at being promoted again. The family still did not get to see much of him. In fact, sometimes Mr. Ade had to work on Sundays entertaining clients. Again, whenever the family complained that he was not spending enough time with them, he reasoned that he was doing all this for them. But he often yearned to spend more time with his family.
As expected, Mr. Ade’s hard work paid off again and he bought a beautiful condominium overlooking the coast of Lagos. On the first Sunday evening at their new home, Mr. Ade declared to his family that he decided not to take anymore courses or pursue any more promotions. From then on he was going to devote more time to his family.

Mr. Ade did not wake up the next day.

Are You Always On Duty?

When an European Airline was initially launched, an educated Christian gentleman was Traveling in the first class section. An air hostess approached him with a complimentary drink, this was an alcoholic drink, so that man politely refused.
The air hostess returned but this time brought the drink on a platter, designed to appeal and impress, however the man again politely refused, explaining he doesn't drink alcohol.
The air hostess was concerned and informed the manager. The manager approached man with another platter, now designed with flowers, he questioned, “is there something wrong with our service? please enjoy the drink, it is a complimentary offer.” The man replied, “I am a Christian and I do not drink alcohol.” The manager still insisted that the man take the drink.
Then, the Christian proposed that the manager should give the drink to the pilot first. The manager stated, “how can the pilot drink alcohol, he’s on duty!? And if he drinks there are all chances for the plane to crash”.
The passenger with tears in his eye, replied, “I am a Christian and I am ALWAYS on duty in order to protect my FAITH and if I Drink Alcohol I will crash my whole life here and hereafter.

I AM 100% ON DUTY!
ARE YOU ALWAYS ON DUTY?

Do have An Awesome Week Ahead

The porcupine’s strategy By Cyril

Little Miranda was alone in the
garden. I was watching her
distractedly, occasionally glancing
over the top of my newspaper.

Almost kneeling, she was slowly
approaching the fence, trying to make
as little noise as possible. I thought
she was looking for mushrooms or that
she was pretending she was a giant
mouse.

But after a few minutes I heard her
cry out. It was a lusty cry, followed
by a bout of tears. I jumped out of my
chair and ran out to the garden, in my
bare feet.

Miranda was holding her index finger.
It was bleeding, but it didn't look too
bad. I ran some water over it, asking
what she could have touched that made
her finger bleed, in a garden that I
had planted with grass and other
harmless plants.

"I wanted to touch the animal," she
replied, "but it didn't let me come
close, so I stretched out my arm and it
did this. Then it ran away. It's too
bad. I didn't want to hurt it."

"What animal?" I asked.

"The white and black ball, down
there," she said, pointing to the end
of the garden.

I picked up a broomstick I found in
the kitchen and went back outside. In
the garden, half buried in an old
gopher hole, I found the animal. It was
a porcupine. I remembered what I had
learned in my natural science class.

The porcupine is a solitary animal.
When confronted, it either retreats or
projects its needles. Once the needles
have penetrated the flesh, the wounds
become infected and, in some cases, can
cause death.

Miranda had presented no danger to
the porcupine, but it didn't know what
else to do except wound her, or get
wounded itself. Nature, in creating its
instinct, gave the porcupine no choice:
instead of communicating, it had to
launch its needles. That is the only
strategy it knows, and no one can
change it, not even a little girl who
wants to make a friend.
__________

Is the porcupine the only animal to
use this type of defense?

No, people apply it every day of
their lives. But our needles are more
vicious, and better hidden. Words,
blows, looks, anger, pride... these are
the arms we use to attack those who
seem to be adversaries.

But even a porcupine has to get close
to other porcupines at a point in time. If
not the species would disappear.

most beautiful feelings, if we are not
able to communicate them."

6 Things Happy People Never Do

6 Things Happy People Never Do

Happiness is not something you postpone for the future;
it is something you design into the present.

Happy people do a lot of things. They spend time expressing gratitude, cultivating optimism, practicing kindness, nurturing loving relationships, committing to meaningful goals, savoring life’s little pleasures, and so on and so forth.

But they NEVER…
1. Mind other people’s business.

Forget about what others are doing. Stop looking at where they are and what they have. Nobody is doing better than you because nobody can do better than you. YOU are walking your own path. Sometimes the reason we struggle with insecurity is because we compare our behind-the-scenes circumstances with everyone else’s public highlight reel. We listen to the noise of the world, instead of ourselves. So stop the comparisons! Ignore the distractions. Listen to your own inner voice. Mind your own business.

Keep your best wishes and your biggest goals close to your heart and dedicate time to them every day. Don’t be scared to walk alone, and don’t be scared to enjoy it. Don’t let anyone’s ignorance, drama, or negativity stop you from being the best you can be. Keep doing what you know in your heart is right, for YOU. Because when you are focused on meaningful work and at peace within yourself, almost nothing can shake you.

2. Seek validation of self-worth from others.

When you are content to simply be yourself, without comparing and competing to impress others, everyone worthwhile will respect you. And even more importantly, you will respect yourself.

How are you letting others define you? What would you do differently if you knew nobody would judge you?

Truth be told, no one has the right to judge you. People may have heard your stories, and they may think they know you, but they can’t feel what you are going through; they aren’t living YOUR life. So forget what they think and say about you. Focus on how you feel about yourself, and keep walking the path that feels best under your feet.

Those who accept you are your friends. Those who don’t are your teachers. If someone calls you something and it’s true, it’s not your problem because it’s true. If someone calls you something and it’s not true, it’s not your problem because it’s not true. Either way, whatever they call you is not your problem. What other people call you is their problem…

What you call yourself, and who you decide to become, is your problem.

3. Rely on other people and external events for happiness.

Unhappiness lies in that gap between what we have now and what we think we need. But the truth is, we don’t need to acquire anything more to be content with what we already have. We don’t need anyone else’s permission to be happy. Your life is magnificent not because someone says it is, or because you have acquired something new, but because you choose to see it as such. Don’t let your happiness be held hostage. It is always yours to choose, to live and experience.

As soon as you stop making everyone and everything else responsible for your happiness, the happier you’ll be. If you’re unhappy now, it’s not someone else’s fault. Take full responsibility for your own unhappiness, and you will instantly gain the ability to be happier. Stop seeking in vain to arrange conditions that will make you happy. Simply choose to appreciate the greatness that is yours in this moment, and the right conditions will start to line up around the contentment you seek.

The greater part of your happiness or unhappiness depends upon your outlook, and not upon our situation. Even if things aren’t perfect right now, think of all the beauty still left around you. A good reason to smile is always one thought away; choose to tap into it any time you like.

4. Hold on to resentment.

Let today be the day you stop being haunted by the ghosts from your past. What happened in the past is just one chapter in your story; don’t close the book, just turn the page.

We’ve all been hurt by our own decisions and by others, and while the pain of these experiences is normal, sometimes it lingers for too long. Feelings of resentment urge us to relive the same pain over and over, and we have a hard time letting go.

Forgiveness is the remedy. It allows you to focus on the future without combating the past. To understand the infinite potential of everything going forward is to forgive everything already behind you. Without forgiveness, wounds can never be healed and personal growth can never be achieved. It doesn’t mean you’re erasing the past, or forgetting what happened. It means you’re letting go of the resentment and pain, and instead choosing to learn from the incident and move on with your life.
5. Spend prolonged periods of time in negative environments.

You can’t make positive choices for the rest of your life without an environment that makes those choices easy, natural, and enjoyable. So protect your spirit and potential from contamination by limiting your time with negative people and the environments they inhabit.

When other people invite you to act like victims, when they whine and moan about the unfairness of life, for example, and ask you to agree, to offer condolences, and to participate in their grievances, WALK AWAY. When you join in that game of negativity you always lose.

Even when you’re alone, create a positive mental space for yourself. Make it a point to give up all the thoughts that make you feel bad, or even just a few of them that have been troubling you, and see how doing that changes your life. You don’t need negative thoughts. They are all lies. They solve nothing. All they have ever given you is a false self that suffers for no reason.

6. Resist the truth.

It is a certain deathtrap when we spend our lives learning how to lie, because eventually these lies grow so strong in our minds that we become bad at seeing, telling and living our own truth. Lives come apart so easily when they have been held together with lies. If you resist the truth, you will live a lie every day as the truth haunts your thoughts every night. You simply can’t get away from your truth by moving dishonestly from one place to the next.

So don’t bend; don’t water it down; don’t try to hide the truth with deception; don’t edit your own soul according to the fashion of what’s popular. It is better to offer no explanation or excuse than a false one. It takes courage and strength to admit the truth, but it is the only way to truly live. Accept what is, embrace it fully, and live for the possibilities that lie ahead. (Culled From Marc And Angel Hack Life)

FUNNY STORY; NEVER ASSUME

Humorous stories, funny messages, jokes, laughter , funny stories
The CNN Photographer

John was told that a Twin-Engine Plane would be Waiting at the Airport.
Arriving at the Airport he spotted a Plane warming up outside the hanger.
He jumped in, said ‘Lets go’.
The Pilot taxied and took off.
Once in the air John told the Pilot: ‘Fly Low over the Valley so I can take Pictures of the Fire on the hill’
Pilot : Why.?
John : Bcoz I’m the Photographer for CNN. I need to get some close up shots.
Pilot was strangely silent for a moment, then he stammered ‘So, what You’re telling me is . . . You’re Not My Flying Instructor’?
.
Life is Short. .
.
Always ASK, NEVER ASSUME.!

CAN YOU PUT THE GLASS DOWN

small story, short story with lesson,Life / Learning /Inspirational story ,Quotes – Inspirational Quotes, Pictures and Motivational Thoughts ,
Read this short story; Hope that makes a BIG change in YOU

.
The Professor began his class by holding up a glass with some water in it. He held it up for all to see & asked the students “How much do you think this glass weighs?”

.

’50gms!’….. ’100gms!’ …..’125 gms’ …the students answered.

.

“I really don’t know unless I weigh it,” said the professor, “but, my question is:
What would happen if I held it up like this for a few minutes?”…. .
‘Nothing’ …..the students said.
.
‘Ok what would happen if I held it up like this for an hour?’ the professor asked.
‘Your arm would begin to ache’ said one of the student
.
“You’re right, now what would happen if I held it for a day?”
“Your arm could go numb; you might have severe muscle stress & paralysis & have to go to hospital for sure!”
….. Ventured another student & all the students laughed
.
“Very good.
But during all this, did the weight of the glass change?” Asked the professor.
‘No’…. Was the answer.
“Then what caused the arm ache & the muscle stress?”
.
The students were puzzled.
“What should I do now to come out of pain?” asked professor again.
“Put the glass down!” said one of the students
. “Exactly!” said the professor.
Life’s problems are something like this.
.
Hold it for a few minutes in your head & they seem OK.
Think of them for a long time & they begin to ache.
.
Hold it even longer & they begin to paralyze you. You will not be able to do anything.
.
It’s important to think of the challenges or problems in your life, But EVEN MORE IMPORTANT is to ‘PUT THEM DOWN’ at the end of every day before you go to sleep…
.
That way, you are not stressed, you wake up every day fresh &strong & can handle any issue, any challenge that comes your way!
.

Moral

So, when you start your day today, Remember friend to ‘PUT THE GLASS DOWN TODAY! ‘

How About A Clean Basket?

The story is told of an old man who lived on a farm in the mou ntains of eastern Kentucky with his young grandson.

Each morning, Grandpa was up early sitting at the kitchen table
reading from his old worn-out Bible. His grandson who wanted to be just like him tried to imitate him in any way he could.

One day the grandson asked,
“Papa, I try to read the Bible just like you but I don’t understand it, and what I do understand I forget as soon as I close the book.

What good does reading the Bible do?”
The Grandfather quietly turned from putting coal in the stove and said, “Take this coal basket down to the river and bring back a basket of water.”

The boy did as he was told, even though all the water leaked out before he could get back to the house.

The grandfather laughed and said, “You will have to move a little faster next time,” and sent him back to the river with the basket to try again.

This time the boy ran faster, but again the basket was empty before he returned home.
Out of breath, he told his grandfather that it was “impossible to carry water in a basket,” and he went to get a bucket instead. The old man said, “I don’t want a bucket of water.
I want a basket of water. You can do this. You’re just not trying hard enough,” and he went out the door to watch the boy try again.

At this point, the boy knew it was impossible, but he wanted to show his grandfather that even if he ran as fast as he could, the water would leak out before he got far at all.
The boy scooped the water and ran hard, but when he reached his grandfather the basket was again empty.

Out of breath, he said, “See Papa, it’s useless!”

The old man said, “So you think it is useless?
Look at the basket.”

The boy looked at the basket and for the first time he realized that the basket looked different.
Instead of a dirty old coal basket, it was clean.

“Son, that’s what happens when you read the Bible.
You might not understand or remember everything, but when you read it, it will change you from the inside out.”

That is the work of the Word of God in our lives . . . to change us from the inside out and to progressively transform us into the image of His Son.

Take plenty of bites each day.... You can't have too much of it.

I believe we had a great day. Enjoy

Blessed Wisdom Tips

Permit me to give you this words of wisdom. It will also be a great blessing to you. Please read and meditate on it.

1. ON EARNING:
Never depend on single income. Make inves tment to create a second chance.

2. ON SPENDING:
If you buy things you do not need, soon you will have to sell things you need.

3. ON SAVINGS:
Do not save what is left after spending, but spend what is left after saving.

4. ON TAKING RISK:
Never test the depth of a river with both feet.

5. ON INVESTMENT:
Do not put all eggs in one basket.

6. ON EXPECTATIONS:
Honesty is a very expensive gift. Do not expect it from cheap people.

7. IF YOU are depressed, you are living in the past. If you are anxious, you are living in the future. If you are at peace, you are living in the present. Past is a waste paper. Present is a newspaper and future is a question paper.

8. WHEN bad things happen in your life you have three choices. You can either let it define you, let it destroy you or you can let it strengthen you.

9. EMPTY pockets teach you a million things in life but full pockets spoil you in a million ways.

10. OUR EYES are in the front because it is more important to look ahead than to look back.

11. WE USED a pencil when we were small but now we use pens... do you know why? Because mistakes in childhood can be erased but not now.
So read and write carefully otherwise life will be a tissue paper. Hope you are blessed?

Have a superb weekend

A friend of mine shared this inspirational thought with me. I'm sure you'll agree. He says, "This is what I have learnt from sunday's final match between Ghana and Ivory Coast. In life you don't need a great start to be successful. After missing their first two kicks and Ghana scores, one would have thought Ivory coast should have given up but they kept on fighting and their perseverance paid off. No matter how you start your life or where you are now, pick yourself up and keep on fighting and hopefully you will succeed just like Ivory Coast.

30th African Cup of Nations

Champions - Ivory Coast

Goal King - Andre Dede Ayew

Man of the tournament- Christian Atsu

This means ; it is highly possible to win all the Earthly accolades and still miss the Crown of Heaven!...

NYSC DELAY!!! A BLESSING IN DISGUISE!!!

He's made everything beautiful in His own time...

That's been my consolation!

And of course, the years the cankerworms(NYSC) have eaten, He will restore.

So, no need to fret!

Let's just maximise this time. You don't need to be in the "rat race" of looking for Jobs.

If you need to take a job, do!!

If it is to acquire a skill, do!

If it is to be indoor, reading books and building capacity for your next move, do.

Just make sure that you get it clearly and rightly so that your life can be in the right perspective.

Don't let someone's action or inaction determine your disposition to this time.

At this precious time of our life, let everyman be persuaded in his own heart on what to do and let him do it well with his might even if na to sleep😜😜😜.

And if you don't have anything to do,
Pray for Nigeria

Pray for marriages that are enduring storms.

Pray for the body of Christ.

Pray for the less privilege.

Pray for Lanre and sister........😉😍( you will know her in the fullness of time or God can even reveal/confirm her to u).

Most importantly, you can join awaiting corpers like you at the awaiting corpers fellowship on Saturday, 21st of February at Foursquare church, camp, alabata as we pray and discuss the topic "career exploit and fulfilment as kingdom ambassadors"

Make it a date with God if you are in or around Abeokuta...

Lest I forget, enjoy your February 14!!! Be an advocate of purity and chastity. celebrate your loved ones, with the love of God radiating in your eyes.

I Agape you ooo

Shalom!!!!- Olokunde Olanrewaju

IT IS TUESDAY!

Good Morning Pals

IT IS TUESDAY!

People not believing in you doesn't mean you can't achieve it. Where the most inspirational spirit lies is within you, believe in yourself even when everybody doesn't.

Each morning comes with renewed hope, another chance and a great opportunity to do better than we did yesterday.

You've gotta wake up every morning and ask yourself, 'How bad do you want it?' How much work are you willing to put forth for the things and people you want and need in your life? Nothing great comes without effort. But I promise you that if it's something of great meaning in your heart and something you need in your life...EVERY risk, EVERY step and EVERY drop of sweat will be worth it.

Every morning you have two choices, continue your sleep with dreams or WAKE UP and chase your dreams. CHOICE IS YOURS. GOOD MORNING

Well done is better than well said.

11 habits you need to dump be better person in 2015

Most of us only think about becoming better people as we prepare our New Year resolutions. But the transition from being average to excellent need to begin at any time of the year but much more importantly now.

Here are habits you need to dump if you really are going to reach your goal of becoming a better person.

1. Being late

You know that annoying feeling of hanging around waiting for your friend who is running late? That’s exactly the same feeling they have when they’re waiting for you. Being late all the time is not only bad manners, but also completely avoidable.

Try planning your time better so that you have plenty of time to complete your journey and arrive early in future. Your friends, family and employer will be appreciative.

2. Texting during conversations

When you talk to someone, you expect them to have the courtesy to listen. But texting during a conversation is the non-verbal equivalent of saying “I couldn’t give a damn about you”. You appear to value the text conversation more than the person stood right in front of you.

Put your phone in your pocket and leave it there. If there is a genuine emergency, the other person will call repeatedly. Giving your full attention to the conversation will improve your relationship with the speaker, immediately making you a better person.

3. Being self-centered

You know those people who always talk about themselves? How annoying is that? But when every thought, word and action revolves around you, it is completely impossible to be a good person.

Instead you need to focus on the people around you. Listen to what they are saying. Find ways you can help them. Put others first. This will not only make you a better person, but people will actually want to spend time with you too.

4. Lying

The easiest way to kill any relationship is by lying. Even ‘little white lies’ have the potential to destroy trust.

Make a policy of always telling the truth, no matter how much that may hurt. People will respect and trust you more as a result.

5. Busting your budget

Few things suck in life quite so much as running out of money. But owing money to other people is actually worse. You feel trapped and you can’t do anything until that debt is repaid.

Drawing up a budget and sticking to it will give you peace of mind that all of your expenses will be covered and help you avoid debt. You’ll feel a lot better for it in the long run too.

6. Gossiping

‘A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy person keeps a secret,‘ says the Proverb revealing an age old truth. When you talk about people behind their back, not only are you abusing their trust, but you also reveal yourself to be untrustworthy.

Avoid gossip to immediately become a better person. You will also find that your friends trust you a whole lot more when they don’t have to worry about you sharing their secrets.

7. Complaining

Some people are never satisfied – they only ever see what is wrong with their lives. And other people hate talking to these ingrates.

Stop moaning about what is wrong with your life and start counting your blessings. Try thinking about the good things you have and you will find that your outlook on life changes. You’ll also find people are much more willing to talk to you too.

8. Relying on the bank of Mom and Dad

You’ve bust your budget and maxed your credit cards. Next stop, the Bank of Mom and Dad. They won’t be able to resist “lending” you a few dollars – they probably won’t even expect to get it back.

But if you want to be a better person, you need to realise that, as an adult, your parents expect you to stand on your own two feet and provide for yourself. Living with in your means is a sign of maturity – proving you’re becoming a better person.

9. Speaking out of ignorance

“Even fools are thought wise when they keep silent;
with their mouths shut, they seem intelligent.”
These days we are expected to hold (and voice) an opinion on everything. Often we speak out of ignorance, giving a respond based on gut-reactions, often totally wrong. Part of becoming a better person is having the strength of character to keep quiet and not giving an opinion on subjects we don’t fully understand.

10. Under-valuing age

We live in a culture that favours youth over experience, often unfairly relegating older people to second-class citizens. But in doing so, we often doom ourselves to repeat the mistakes of our forefathers. If you are serious about becoming a better person, make time for the older people in your life. They offer a wealth of valuable life experience and often have fascinating stories to tell too.

11. Acting immature

Thinking like a child will make you act like a child. That’s fine when you’re 15, but not so cool when you’re 25. Taking responsibility for your own actions will help you mature – a key step in becoming a better person.

Thou shall not be late; Did The Bible Say So?

There is no commandment in the Bible that says, “Thou shall not be late, ever,” so it’s not as simple as one Scripture reference to determine God’s view on tardiness. Everyone has been late to something at some point, often due to unforeseen or unavoidable circumstances. But, if someone is habitually late and unconcerned about being on time, especially if that person professes to be a Christian, then scriptural principles do apply. As with all things, God looks at the heart, “for the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7).
For one thing, continual lateness does not express love for others. Forcing others to wait for us time after time is simply rude. Christians are to love one another and love our enemies as well, and “love is not rude” (1 Corinthians 13:5). When others perceive that we are unloving and unconcerned about them, our reputations as Christians suffer. “A good name is better than precious ointment” (Ecclesiastes 7:1). A good name, a good reputation is important for a Christian. This means that we should be known as people of our word, trustworthy and dependable, and not be known as always late, slothful, or unconcerned about others. Our actions as Christians point back at Christ. Do they glorify Him? Do they bring Him honor? “And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men” (Colossians 3:23).

Furthermore, as Christians we never want to cause someone else to sin. Constantly being forced to wait for someone can be very aggravating, especially to those who make an effort to be on time. Minor irritation can easily become anger, which can easily become sin, and we are never to be the cause of someone else’s sin. “Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Things that cause people to sin are bound to come, but woe to that person through whom they come’” (Luke 17:1).

Waiting can not only be frustrating, but it causes unnecessary stress and wasted time for the person that has to wait. Christians are exhorted by Paul to “do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves” (Philippians 2:3). The perpetually late person does not consider others’ time as more important than his own. Most habitual late-comers are concerned only with themselves. Continually being late does not communicate a zeal or diligence in serving Christ by loving others as He loves us. It also does not communicate faithfulness or trustworthiness.

For the person who is habitually late, there is hope. For many, it is simply a matter of overcoming bad habits built up over time. Sometimes it’s just a matter of changing those habits to be more aware of time, planning ahead, and leaving ample time for the unexpected. Recognizing the spiritual impact on others is the first step in understanding the importance of reversing the bad habit of tardiness. If we are motivated by love for others and a desire to maintain a good reputation for Christ’s sake, then prayer for wisdom and help is the next step. God has promised wisdom to all who ask for it (James 1:5), and He is never far away from those who call upon His power for godly living.
