What are the major differences between Smartness, Intelligence, Brilliance & Genius?

Image result for intelligence and smart

These are just words, and they don't have generally-agreed-upon specific meanings.

I'm going to try and wing it as I go along so forgive any contradictions that creep into the answer. Also, I suspect I'm going to need Venn diagrams for this exercise. Let's begin:

Intelligence is something that's acquired by reading books, through academia and it implies knowledge, retention and recall. If I were to plot knowledge vs application on a graph, Intelligence would gravitate more towards the knowledge side of it.

Smartness is the ability to improvise given the limited resources at hand. The resources can include information as well. Smartness – from the perspective of word's dictionary meaning –  alludes to wit, and being quick on the uptake. So maybe smart people can learn quickly and therefore acquire intelligence.

Brilliance, in my opinion, is simply a higher degree of smartness. Someone who is really really smart is automatically labelled brilliant.

Genius is perhaps the intersection of all of these.

I'd say, roughly speaking, that many people use "smart" and "intelligent" as synonyms when referring to someone who is above-average in terms of knowledge acquisition, problem-solving ability, or creativity.

"He has a 4.0 average! He's really smart."

"She has speaks seven languages. She's really intelligent."

People tend to use "brilliant" and "genius" to mean "super-intelligent" or "way above average." As with "smart" and "intelligent," many people use "brilliant" and "genius" as synonyms.

"Shakespeare was able to write the best plays in the English language because he was brilliant."

"You'll never be able to understand Stephen Hawking's work. He's a genius!"

But, again, these are trends or tendencies. A particular person might say, "I think of 'smart' and 'intelligent' as different..."

I am full of "theories" -- one of my theories is that intelligent people have more chances of survival in the face of an apocalypse than educated people.... seems a bit hard to see in the beginning, however there is a great comedy show that shows this theory to perfection.

-- In the Big Bang Theory, Dr. Sheldon Cooper's character is extremely educated, however when he is facing situations where he has no background knowledge, he fails or has to try very hard to begin grasping the knowledge of how it works, or what decision to take.

-- Dr. Sheldon Cooper is a genius. He has inmense knowledge on many different fields. In one episode he was to face someone else on a basketball match... none of the two people had ever even touched a basketball, and both are very well educated. - To make the long story short... none of them was even capable of bounce the ball on the floor successfully -- Now in the other hand, if the person in the same position as Dr. Cooper was his neighbor "Penny", whom he considers and is portrait as a little bit of a "air head" and not well educated at all, would have figured out how to bounce that ball within seconds.

---- This is one of the examples why I say, the human race will survive on Intelligent people, not educated ones. --
Some people are on complete extremes, very well educated to extremely intelligent... some are fortunate enough to have both in a good balance, but others are not so lucky.

Fortunately, Intelligent people solve their handicaps" by getting educated.... (A lot of intelligent people have issues studying and learning with the same ease as others do, in their mind there is a lot of information out there that is not necessary to get the job or task done - so their 'intelligent' brain bypasses that "junk" information and grasps the concept quickly - they use their common sense!) - educated people have a much harder time getting that common sense' that come to smart people so easily! - Yes educated people can gather all the necessary information and make a more 'educated' decision than the intelligent ones.... however if you are facing mayhem, the time you take to make that decision is crucial.

- One last example..... if both the intelligent and the educated people are standing on the ground and the ground is crumbing under their feet, and they find two paths... one of roads will be on safe ground that won't crumble into an abyss, the other road will disintegrate and kill the person who chose it. The intelligent person will go with their gut and make a decision... this means they have a 50% of survival.... the educated person on the other hand, will stop and consider what are the conditions on the two choices and thinks about which one has the highest chances of survival.... however, in the time that it takes them to think, the ground would have crumble under them, and they will certainly die... giving them 0% of survival. - so yeah... humanity's future is in the hand of intelligent people.. not educated ones... so gloat all you want about your "Book Smarts" - that is not what is going to save you in the end....

What type of person do you think you are? - no need to post your answer just think about it... where do you tend to lean towards the most? Are most of your first reactions correct, and you confirmed it when things went wrong because you took another route after over analyzing it? Or are you most of the time right because you go with that first instinct or "gut feeling" you get?

"THANK YOU JESUS, YOU TURNED IT" - Nathaniel Bassey Testifies Of God's Protection From Plane Crash - @nathanielblow

God be praised forever! Stumbled across this testimony few minutes ago by renowned worshiper & songwriter,Nathaniel Bassey and it's important you hear what he has to say about God's love, guidance & protection. Lesson learned; "never get too familiar with the grace of God that you forget to show gratitude".

"THANK YOU JESUS. HE TURNED IT!
Between Sunday and Monday, I've flown for about 5 hours in and out of different cities in the US. Yesterday's was to be the last lap before returning to base on this trip. So we were flying from Charlotte to Washington Dc. Pilot already said it was cloudy and would rain at some point.

Going through the thickly dark clouds was stressful enough. And just about 15mins to land, he gets on the mic to say, "ladies and gentlemen, something just popped up in front, and we have to divert immediately. That's all I can say for now. We land in 20 mins. Cabin crew prepare for landing and as soon as he got off the mic you could hear someone literally flying hurriedly to beat something. Then began this Hollywood maneuvering. Now after you hear such, you know it's has to be a GOD. You know what prior to this time, I felt a leading to listen to Tye Tribbet's HE'S TURNED IT.

Normally I would listen to sorting softer while reading at the same time. So when the announcement came. I figured GOD had already turned it around for our good. So as this rush to land continued, folks became apprehensive. With my ear phones on I just declared THANK YOU JESUS... THANK YOU JESUS.....etc.  To spare you the details, we landed safely and met these fire trucks waiting for us. It was then we realised it was a big deal. Praise God, HE TURNED IT.Now, while I declared those words and prayed the oyibos looked like they didn't hear. But when we landed, an elderly man turned to me and said,"THANKS FOR HELPING TO LAND THE PLANE AND PRAYING FOR SOME OF US WHO CANT PRAY".

Immediately I said, "PRAISE GOD. JESUS LANDED THE PLANE" I also remember saying thank you Jesus on the preceding flight we were on. And two women next to me said, yes thank you Jesus. Why am I saying this ? Sometimes when in public, we become ashamed of our faith. We don't want people thinking we are fanatics. But truth of the matter is that, people are waiting to see and know our God is real. And indeed they testifies yesterday. It is normally my practice to say THANK YOU JESUS when ever I arrive safely. At least to the hearing of those around me. So when you taxi, say it. When you take off, say Thank you Jesus. When you cruise and land safely, Thank him. Don't ever get used to his goodness and mercy, no matter how small they look, and forget to say Thank you Jesus!  Now here is a an add on testimony. The flight was mistakenly booked to land me at a wrong airport. Farther from where we stay. But the diversion actually now took us back to where I should have landed in the first place. I guess this is what scripture says when things work out for our good.

So I prophecy to you reading this, everything meant to destroy you and cause you shame and sorrow is being turned around. And shall work perfectly for your good and favor. And you shall testify, in Jesus' name. Amen!  So once again, I say THANK YOU JESUS. YOU TURNED IT."

TRUTH: Life is a single line walk.

The men walk in a single line on the face
of the earth.

Each of them has a bag placed on his chest
and a bag on his back.

In the first bag we place our qualities.

In the second we place our shortcomings.
Each man has his own criteria for deciding
both shortcoming and advantages or qualities.

During this long march that we call life,
We keep our eyes on our front bag, although
we aren't quite at our final destination,
but we feel we shall arrive there soon.

During this time, on our backs we still
have the weight of our vices which hang
miserably.

We pretend to ignore it, because we are
too busy,

We consider our duty to reproach the
defect of our companions, people around us,
which are in front of us and we are free
to see that they have a bag of drawbacks.

We consider that we are better than him,
forgetting that those who walk behind us
can also see our bag of drawbacks. Those
also consider us less deserving and do not
give us the respect we need.

---------------------------------------

Isn't this the situation we live every day?

This short text should remind us that our
position is relative among men: we are not
better or worst than others around us.

We should give our companion the benefit
of the doubt and give him the chance to change
for the better, without reproaching his
shortcomings.

Lead With Your Strengths

The Word for Today

'...I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit...' Isaiah 48:17 NKJV

In case you’re wondering whether or not God wants you to succeed, the answer is a resounding ‘Yes!’ He told the Israelites, ‘I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you by the way you should go.’ (Isaiah 48:17 NKJV) But you’ll only succeed if you know and do the right things. Only as the leader grows, will the company or ministry grow. It’s amazing how much time, money and energy we spend on things that can’t produce growth. Logos, websites, brochures and slogans are all important, but they’ll never make up for incompetent leadership. So what should you do? Once you know you’re walking in God’s will and your private life is in order, the keys to success are priorities and concentration.
John Maxwell offers the following guidelines:

(1) Focus 70% of your energy on developing your strengths. Effective leaders who reach their potential spend more time on what they do well than on what they do badly.

(2) Focus 25% on new things. If you want to get better you have to keep changing and improving. That means stepping out into new areas. If you dedicate time to new things related to your strong areas, you’ll grow as a leader.

(3) Focus 5% on areas of weakness. Nobody can entirely avoid working in their areas of weakness. (Note: we’re not talking here about sin or character weaknesses that must be dealt with.) The key is to delegate to gifted people the things that you’re not particularly good at. That way you’re free to concentrate in the areas of your God–given strengths.
