Be a Peacemaker

The Word For Today

'Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.' Matt 5:9

Jesus spent much of His ministry tearing down barriers and building bridges. He did it through acts of love such as washing the feet of those who would fail and betray Him, eating with a tax collector everybody in town despised, and giving hope to a fallen woman that society condemned. The Bible says, 'Peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness' (James 3:18 NLT).

Words of peace are like seeds. They don't produce fruit overnight, but slowly and silently they work their way to the surface, changing hearts, minds, attitudes and futures.

Doctor Robert Oppenheimer, the noted physicist who masterminded the first atomic bomb, was asked by a congressional committee if there was any defence against it. Addressing a hushed audience he replied, 'Yes-peace!' Now, if peace can defuse an atomic bomb, think what it can do in the lives of the people you come in contact with! Jesus said, 'Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the sons of God.'

Every day you'll meet frightened, despairing, lonely, angry people who need a word of peace. Do you have one? Solomon offers us three ways to calm strife, defuse a tense situation, and get a better result:

1) Patience. 'A hot-tempered man stirs up dissension, but a patient man calms a quarrel' (Proverbs 15:18 NIV).

2) Self-control. 'Better a patient man than a warrior, a man who controls his temper than one who takes a city' (Proverbs 16:32 NIV).

3) Wisdom. 'A man's wisdom gives him patience; it is to his glory to overlook an offence' (Proverbs 19:11 NIV).

QUOTES: What Do Christians Have To Say About Money?

Money is essential to survive in this world. Although contrary to what most people believe, you do not need a huge amount of money to live. And money being the root of all evil has been misquoted for generations. It is the “love of” money that makes humans fall into temptation. So we can say that money is not bad but just like many other of life’s materials, it can be used for good or for bad. Here are 22 Christian quotes about money.

“For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” (1 Timothy 6:10)

Money Used for Good

If a person gets his attitude toward money straight, it will help straighten out almost every other area in his life. ~ Rev. Billy Graham, Evangelist

Our greatest lack is not money for any undertaking, but rather ideas, If the ideas are good, cash will somehow flow to where it is needed. ~ Robert H. Schuller, Televangelist

But for money and the need of it, there would not be half the friendship in the world. It is powerful for good if divinely used. Give it plenty of air and it is sweet as the hawthorn; shut it up and it cankers and breeds worms. ~ George Macdonald, Writer and Minister

Get money to live; then live and use it, else it is not true that thou hast gotten. Surely use alone makes money not contemptible. ~ George Herbert, Poet and Priest

He that rightly understands the reasonableness and excellency of charity will know that it can never be excusable to waste any of our money in pride and folly. ~ William Law, English Cleric and Theological Writer

Most people fail to realize that money is both a test and trust from God. ~ Rick Warren, Minister

“If I love money more than Christ, woe is me!”
Loving Money is Bad

Nothing I am sure has such a tendency to quench the fire of religion as the possession of money. ~ J.C. Ryle, Bishop
A dreadful thing is the love of money! It disables both eyes and ears, and makes men worse to deal with than a wild beast, allowing a man to consider neither conscience nor friendship nor fellowship nor salvation. ~ John Chrysostom, Early Church Father

A real gentleman, even if he loses everything he owns, must show no emotion. Money must be so far beneath a gentleman that it is hardly worth troubling about. ~ Fyodor Dostoevsky, Writer

Money never stays with me. It would burn me if it did. I throw it out of my hands as soon as possible, lest it should find its way into my heart. ~ John Wesley, Cleric and Theologian

Money is Not All that is Needed

Do not think me mad. It is not to make money that I believe a Christian should live. The noblest thing a man can do is, just humbly to receive, and then go amongst others and give. ~ David Livingstone, Missionary to Africa

An active faith can give thanks for a promise, though it be not as yet performed; knowing that God’s bonds are as good as ready money. ~ Matthew Henry, Clergyman

In marriage do thou be wise: prefer the person before money, virtue before beauty, the mind before the body; then thou hast a wife, a friend, a companion, a second self. ~ William Penn, English Founder of the Province of Pennsylvania
A man could have all the money in all the banks in all the world, and be worth nothing so far as God is concerned, if he were still living “to and for himself”! ~ Major Ian Thomas, Writer and Theological Teacher

We should never think that once we have given some money and time to the Lord that the rest is ours to do with as we please. All that we have belongs to God, so He should be taken into consideration in everything we do. ~ Theodore Epp, Clergyman, Writer and Radio Evangelist

The fellow that has no money is poor. The fellow that has nothing but money is poorer still. ~ Billy Sunday, Evangelist

Treasure God More Than Money

God doesn’t need us to give Him our money. He owns everything. Tithing is God’s way to grow Christians. ~ Adrian Rogers, Pastor

God does not need your money; He wants what it represents-you. Finances are God’s gift to you to fulfill His will for your life. While God desires you to prioritize His work in giving, He wants you to purpose to follow and serve Him no matter what happens with your finances. ~Paul Chappell, Pastor

God never leads anyone anywhere for money. ~ Jack Hyles, Pastor

If I love money more than Christ, woe is me! ~ William Tiptaft, Minister

The person who thinks the money he makes is meant mainly to increase his comforts on earth is a fool, Jesus says. Wise people know that all their money belongs to God and should be used to show that God, and not money, is their treasure, their comfort, their joy, and their security. ~ John Piper, Theologian, Preacher and Author

Final Thought

Do you spend more time thinking about money than you do thinking on the things of God? If your answer is yes you may need to take a look at your priorities. As a Christian nothing should be more important nor consume your thoughts and actions more than your relationship with the Lord. Everything you think and do should be to His glory. “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.” (Psalm 19:14)

Don't Act on Impulse!

The Word For Today!

'He that believeth shall not make haste.' Isaiah 28:16

As twins go, Jacob and Esau were very different. But they quickly learned to negotiate. Have you ever watched children make a deal that favoured one over the other? For example, one offers the other a candy bar in exchange for an expensive video game. Well, that same dynamic was at work between Jacob and Esau. Esau had been out hunting and came home exhausted and hungry.

Nothing mattered to him except food-and certainly not something as remote as a future inheritance. In a moment of weakness he said, 'I am about to die...what is this birthright to me...So...he...sold [it] to Jacob...[for] bread and stew' (Genesis 25:32-34 NKJV). It was a decision Esau would live to regret, and couldn't undo.

Recovering addicts are taught the importance of observing their H.A.L.T. sign. When they're Hungry, Angry, Lonely or Tired, they're in danger. And so are you! Acting on impulse will cause you to:
1) buy stuff you don't need at prices you can't afford;
2) react before you get all the facts, resulting in a loss of respect, opportunities and good relationships;
3) compromise your character for a few moments of sinful pleasure;
4) quit in the middle of the race, or worse, on the threshold of victory.

The Bible says, 'He that believeth shall not make haste.' When you make choices based on short-term gratification rather than life-long convictions and goals, you always lose out in the end. So don't take the deal; don't trade your God-given destiny for momentary gratification. Be patient and hold fast. When you do, God will bring your dreams to pass in ways that honour instead of diminishing them.

The 4th Commandent: Bible Lesson and Life Application

If you ask people what they think about the word Sabbath they usually will say something about a day of rest or something related to the Jewish people. However, for many Christians the Sabbath is more than just a day of rest. In order to fully understand the Sabbath a short Bible lesson on the fourth commandment along with its life application is important.

What is the definition of the Sabbath?

The fourth commandment reads like this:

“Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it” (Exodus 20:8-11).

What does the word Sabbath mean? The common definition of Sabbath is (1):
1. A day of religious observance and abstinence from work, kept by Jews from Friday evening to Saturday evening, and by most Christians on Sunday.
2. A supposed annual midnight meeting of witches with the Devil. Origin: Old English, from Latin sabbatum, via Greek from Hebrew šabbāṯ, from šāḇaṯ ‘to rest.’ From this common definition, we see that the word Sabbath has differing definitions, some holy, some not so holy, but the origin brings the focus on the word rest.

What is the Sabbath?

The Sabbath was instituted by God in Genesis 2:1-3 when God “rested” from his work. Some people erroneously believe that God rested on the seventh day because He was tired. This was not the case at all. God rested, or ceased working, from His work of creating everything. It was not to recuperate. It was simply an ending of the work. God also blessed the Sabbath Day and sanctified it, which means He made it holy.

Why was the Sabbath made holy?

The reason God made the Sabbath holy goes to the heart of the Sabbath. We find two immediate reasons. The first is in Exodus 20:1, which tells us that Sabbath was a reminder that the LORD created everything. This reminds us that the LORD was our creator. The second is from Deuteronomy 5:15 as follows:

And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the Lord thy God brought thee out thence through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm: therefore the LORD thy God commanded thee to keep the Sabbath day (Deuteronomy 5:15).

This verse tells us that the second reason was that God delivered the Jews from their bondage in Egypt. This reminds us that the LORD also delivered us from the bondage of sin. The important factor is that the LORD was the one who did it and He had a purpose.

What is purpose of the Sabbath?

In the Old Testament we saw that the Sabbath was a day of rest and worship (Leviticus 23:3). However, Jesus brought the purpose of the Sabbath to light by what He did on the Sabbath as follows:

Jesus allowed the hungry to harvest food (Matthew 12:1-8; Mark 2:23-28; Luke 6:1-5)
Jesus allowed a man with a withered handed to be healed (Mark 3:1-6; Luke 6:6-11)
Jesus allowed those who rejected His teaching to witness miraculous healings (Mark 6:1-6)
Jesus allowed a man to be delivered from demonic possession (Luke 4:31-37)
Jesus allowed a woman disabled for 18 years to be healed (Luke 13:10-17)
Jesus allowed for the caring for animals (Luke 13:15-16)
Jesus allowed a bedridden man to be healed (John 5:1-18)
Jesus allowed a blind man to see (John 9:13-34)
We see a definite pattern here. Hungry people were fed. Disabled people were restored. Disbelieving people were witnessed to. Demonic afflicted people were delivered. Animals needing care were cared for. Blind people were given sight. Jesus did not use that Sabbath to restrict people. He used the Sabbath to free people because of His love.
What does the Sabbath represent?

What the Sabbath represents is explained in Hebrews 3:1-4:16. Here we learn that the Israelites who did not enter the Promised Land and died in the desert did not do so because they broke a commandment. They died in the desert because they did not enter into the rest provided by God through faith. Our Sabbath rest is not in the day of the week (Romans 14:4-23); Our Sabbath rest in Christ!

Christ demonstrated that the Sabbath was for the good of man. Notice in each account we find that there were religious people that were offended. They had twisted the Sabbath into a mindless religious observance. Jesus upset their thinking because he was not focused on the day he was focused on people. The religious people cared more about the day than they did about the people in need. Jesus’ actions made them mad enough to want to kill Him. He had the authority to do these things because He was the Lord of the Sabbath (Matthew 12:8; Mark 2:28; Luke 6:5).

When we trust Christ as our Savior, He provides our Sabbath rest. He makes us a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17; Galatians 6:15; Ephesians 2:10) and delivers us from the bondage of sin (Galatians 4-5:1). By resting in Him, He feeds us, He restores us, He delivers us, He cares for us, He gives us sight, and He frees us from the bondage of the law and sin. Romans 14:4-23 tells us it is not the day of the week we worship or foods we eat that makes us right before God. It was by faith in what God said that makes us right. Anything, even the day we set aside to worship, is sin if we make the focus the day and not God or others (Romans 14:6).

Should we not keep the Sabbath?

If we keep the Sabbath as it was defined in the Old Testament, then we are obligated to keep all 734 Old Testament commandments (Galatians 5:1-5). If we break one commandment we have broken them all (James 2:8-13). Without getting into the argument of keeping a certain day, we should take at least one day to worship, fellowship with believers, serve others, and whatever God inspires us to do to demonstrate our love by faith. In doing so, we will demonstrate that we have faith that He provided a Savior to inspire us to demonstrate our love for Him and others with sincerity and truth (1 Corinthians 5:7-8).

Conclusion

The Sabbath was instituted by God as a day when He ceased from His works of creation. He made the day holy to remind us that God is our creator and deliverer. Jesus demonstrated the purpose of the Sabbath was to serve as a time to focus on demonstrating our love for God by loving and serving others. The Sabbath rest represents the rest we have in Christ, who is the Lord of the Sabbath and serves as our inspiration to love God and our neighbor. We should set aside some of our time each week from our work to focus on demonstrating our love for God, not out of obligation, but because of our love for others.

Instinct Is A Prison

The hunted fears the predator, and
the predator fears hunger and death.

One day a young child got lost in the
fields. He was very far from the
village he lived in, when suddenly he
met a hungry tiger.

"If you eat me now, Tiger," the child
said, "you will still have to hunt
tomorrow."

"Yes, but if I eat you now I will
live another day!" the Tiger replied.

"I can teach you how to live for many
more days," said the child.

The Tiger retracted his claws, sat
down and listened to the what child had
to say.

"Look around you. See how much grass
there is, and how many trees bursting
with fruit. Stop eating meat and you
will never die of hunger."

"But I am a meat eater!" the Tiger
replied. "I have claws and big teeth.
What shall I do with them?"

"Use them to defend those you love,"
said the child.

"But I am alone. I have no family and
no friends."

"If you spare me, I will be your
friend."

The Tiger thought about it, then
said, "All right, I will taste the
grass and the fruit of the trees to
please you."

He spared the child and learned the
joys of sharing a meal with someone
else. And from that time on he was
never hungry.

Our instinct can be a cruel prison,
causing us to act without thinking. We
shout, we get angry and perturbed, we
run away when what we should be doing
is sitting down and thinking about the
consequences of our impulsive actions.

"Instinct is a prison from which the
most ferocious are waiting to be freed."

THE DAY GOD SLUMBERED...

I am a Father, a great Father. I have everything and I know everything. When there was nothing, all there ever was, was me. Yet I was not alone, I was never alone. I had a son, I had an heir. He was enough without everything. He was all without everyone. Everyday I watched. Every time I loved. I savour his presence, I cherish his person. He grew, I knew. He flew, I soared. He saw, I found. He loved, I feared. He went, I missed. He landed, I screamed.
For a while I thought giving him up was the worst but then I found that hanging him was unbearable. He was the only one as I was the only one. He wanted more as I needed more. He knew the prize and I hated the reason. None could truly see me but him, and none could really know him but me. He was mine, I was his. We were All, we are One, and we are yours if you will. Nothing really changed but something did happen. As a son with his father, the first begotten of his father, he lacked nothing except his siblings. I offered, He jumped. I cautioned, He begged. I waited, He hastened. I called, He answered. I planned, He fulfilled. I ruled, He reigned.

One day, that day, as I saw, as I planned, it finally occurred. My only son became my only payment. My vow and my voice. My door and my house. He surrendered, I released. He suffered, I groaned. He bled, I cried. He screamed, I thundered. He saved, I helped. He died, I slumbered. He turned SIN, I stayed GOD. He entered the grave, I followed. He set captives free, I received them up. He rose from the dead, I remained undying eternally. He is LIFE and I am HIM.

The hardest part is though I am God, the great and only wise God, I did the unbelievable. I could never forget, the tiny little details glued on my seat, the mercy seat. His blood flooded my throne, flowed pure and sinless as my Spirit hovers above and beneath. His blood kept cleaning, flowing, it never stops, as my Spirit kept bringing, building, we would never stop. To save, to redeem, to preserve, and to present his very best before me in the end without which I would not have been pleased, and all the agony it took would not have mattered anymore. I do not sleep, I do not slumber. To stay faithful, I stayed conscious and to know ahead, I had to see everything. But that fateful day, I thought I could watch, I thought I could stand it, and be still, but when he hung on the cross I trembled. When he said my name 'FATHER', I was cut, I ran with compassion towards him. But when he became SIN, I stopped, I could not touch, and when he died, I turned away. I slumbered for the first time ever. I could not look at him without doing nothing, I loved him so much, I love him too much.
But for him, my first begotten, my kingdom is full and expanding with SONS, with heirs of the same nature, and of the same image as mine. Till date, I hold a sacred grudge with that day, the night came too early, the sun went too far away, at exactly the sixth hour, the darkness became real enough to divide, separated the father and the well-pleasing son. The only night I have ever truly experienced at noon, the day God slumbered deliberately all hell went loosed for the debt to be paid fully.

Now He lives forever as I live for ever more. And I know assuredly that, that day will never dawn again and such night will never come again, that I will have to look away from any of mine, never will I sleep, never will I slumber for all things are now ACCOMPLISHED!

And he that sent me is with me; the Father hath not left me alone: for I do always those things that please him. John 8:29.
I and my Father are one. John 10:30.

Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me. Hebrews 13:5-6.
( Psalm 121:3-4, John 10:15,18,29 and Hebrews 5:5-10)

Simply Serving...

Simply Serving (1)

'Through love serve one another.' Galatians 5:13

Bill Wilson builds Sunday schools in some of New York City's worst areas. He has been stabbed and shot, and had team members killed. A Puerto Rican lady who could barely speak English said to him one day, 'I want to do something for God, please.' Bill said, 'Okay, ride a different Sunday school bus every week and just love the kids.' So she rode a different bus-Bill has dozens of them-and loved the children. After several months she became attached to one little boy. 'I don't want to change buses any more. I want to stay on this one,' she told Bill. The boy came to Sunday school every week with his sister and sat on the lady's lap, but never made a sound. She would repeatedly tell him, 'I love you, and Jesus loves you.'

One day to her amazement, he turned around and stammered, 'I...love you too.' Then he gave her a big hug. That was at two-thirty on a Sunday afternoon. At six-thirty that night the boy was found dead in a dumpster under a fire escape. His mother had beaten him to death and thrown his body in the trash. 'I love you, and Jesus loves you.' Those were some of the last words that little boy heard in his short life-from the lips of a Puerto Rican woman who could barely speak English.

Bill says, 'Who among us is qualified to minister? Who among us even knows what to do? Not you; not me. But I ran to an altar once and got some fire and just went. So did this woman who couldn't speak English. And so can you.'

The next time someone says they would like to find God's perfect will for their lives and that they want to be in the center of His will, just send them to the center of His Word!

Psalms 118:8
"It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man."
Now isn't that odd how this worked out (or was God in the center of it)?

Walk in Forgiveness.

The Word For Today

'The merciful...will be shown mercy.' Matthew 5:7

The German philosopher Schopenhauer compared the human race to porcupines huddled together on a winter night: 'The colder it gets outside, the more we huddle together for warmth. But the closer we get...the more we hurt one another with our sharp quills. And in the lonely night of earth's winter, eventually we begin to drift apart and wander out on our own and freeze to death in our loneliness.' What's the answer? 'Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us' (Matthew 6:12). President Ronald Reagan understood this. After an attempt on his life in 1981, his daughter Patti Davis said, 'The following day my father said he knew his physical healing was directly dependent on his ability to forgive John Hinckley.

By showing me that forgiveness is the key to everything, including physical health and healing, he gave me an example of Christ-like thinking.' Perhaps your wounds are old ones: an abusive parent, a cheating spouse, a business deal gone sour. Or maybe they're still fresh: an overlooked promotion, an unpaid debt, kids who've forgotten you exist. Either way, you've a decision to make. Get over it, or get even. Let it heal, or turn to hate. Release it, or resent it. Resentment allows whatever's eating you, to eat you up. It stokes the fire, fans the flames, and replays the pain. Think about it: has your resentment brought you relief? If today you stood by the grave of the one who hurt you, would you be free? It's doubtful. 'The merciful...will be shown mercy,' because they've experienced an even greater grace-God's-and forgiveness is the key to understanding it.

Worship For Change Concert 2014 Holds at MUSON Centre, October 5th

The 2014 Worship for Change concert is scheduled to hold on Sunday 5th October 2014. The kick off time is 5pm and the venue is the Shell hall of the MUSON Centre, Onikan.

Worship for Change concerts, hosted by Wale Adenuga and Fountain of Praise, are a series of benefit concerts organized to raise awareness and support for orphans and children with special needs.

Are You Jealous?

The Word For Today.

'Jealousy is like cancer in the bones.' Proverbs 14:30

Christian educator Henrietta Mears said, 'The man who keeps busy helping the man below him, won't have time to be jealous of the man above him.' Doctor Seuss wrote hundreds of children's stories. One of his most famous is about the Grinch, a cartoon character who gets so jealous of others that he ends up biting himself. Jealousy does that. It targets others, but ends up consuming you. God blessed King Saul and lifted him from obscurity to the highest position in Israel. But when David slew Goliath and won the adulation of the people, Saul started acting insecure and threatened. Instead of rejoicing that God had sent David to help him, he grew resentful and became 'David's enemy from that time forward' (1 Samuel 18:9).

The Bible says, 'A peaceful heart leads to a healthy body; jealousy is like cancer in the bones.' Jealousy is malignant; left unchecked it can destroy every relationship in your life. It poisons your attitude by making you compare yourself with others. It robs you of joy and contentment. You become ungrateful and self-centred. It makes you assume that God's resources aren't sufficient for Him to bless others and still bless you.

Saul's jealousy cost him his throne, his family, his respect in the eyes of the people, and ultimately his life. Don't let jealousy do that to you. Repent before it robs you of your destiny. God made all of us His children when none of us deserved it. So when you feel resentful of somebody else's blessings, ask God to remind you of the many ways in which He has blessed you even when you didn't deserve it.

10 Fantastic Facts Of The Bible

Today, we are examining some fantastic facts of the Bible. The Bible has so many amazing facts. Here is a list of ten of them.

1 – The Writing of the Bible

The Bible was written over a 1600 year period by approximately 40 men. The time of the writing was from 1500 BC to AD 100.

2 – The Divisions of the Bible

While the Bible is 1 book, it contain 66 smaller books. The books of the Old Testament were written before the birth of Jesus Christ and the New Testament covers the life of Christ and beyond.

3 – Chapters and Verses

Each of the books, except 5, are divided into chapters and verses. The 5 which aren’t divided by chapters are Obadiah, Philemon, 2 John, 3 John, and Jude. These are short books which only have verse divisions.

Chapters were introduced to the Bible in 1238 by Cardinal Hugo de S. Caro. Verse divisions were not added until 1551 by Robertus Stephanus.

4 – The Longest and Shortest of the Bible

The longest chapter if the Bible is Psalm 119 with 176 verses. The shortest chapter is Psalm 117 with only 2 verses. Incidentally, the middle chapter of the Bible is Psalm 118. also Psalm 117.

The longest book of the Bible is Psalms with 150 chapters, or psalms. It contains 43,743 words. The shortest book is 3 John with only 1 chapter and 299 words.

The longest verse in the Bible is Esther 8:9 with 90 words. The shortest verse is John 11:35 with only 2 words, “Jesus wept.”

5 – The Bible Claims to be God’s Word

There are many books written about and by various religions. But the Bible is the only one which claims to be the actual words of God. Those who believe the Bible also believe that God inspired various people through the years to write down His actual words for mankind. The Bible says more than 3,000 times “thus saith the Lord.” It claims that the words which follow are quotes from God.

6 – The Bible is Historically Accurate

There were several secular historians who wrote about the events of the New Testament at the same time the Bible was being written. Josephus is the most well-known of them. He was a Jewish historian. Tacitus was a Roman historian who would have no benefit from not telling the truth. Both these men, as well as others, can be used to back up the historical accuracy of the Bible.

There are historical discoveries regularly coming to light that continue to support the accuracy of the Bible. Merrill Unger, who compiled a Bible dictionary wrote, “Old Testament archeology has rediscovered whole nations, resurrected important peoples, and in a most astonishing manner filled in historical gaps, adding immeasurably to the knowledge of Biblical backgrounds.”

7 – The Business of the Bible

There are more than 168,000 Bibles either sold or given away per day in the United States according to the Gideons, Wycliffe International and the International Bible Societies.

Historically it has been said that the Bible is the most sold book of all time. It is regularly on various best seller lists.

The Bible has been translated into more than 1,200 languages.

8 – The Bible Never Contradicts Itself

There are no contradictions in the Bible. Various people claim to find contradictions but they have to take verses out of context to do so. When looking at the Bible as a whole and understanding its teachings there are no contradictions. This is amazing when one considers that the Bible was written over such a long period of time.

9 – The Prophecies of the Bible

There are more than 3,200 verses with fulfilled prophecy either within the Bible itself or since the Bible was written. But there are still more than 3,100 verses with unfulfilled prophecies.

10 – The Writers of the Bible

While there were at least 40 different people who wrote parts of the Bible, some were more prolific than others. The Apostle Paul wrote at least 13 books of the Bible. He may have also been the author of the book of Hebrews. Moses wrote the first 5 books.

The Bible attributes more than 3,000 proverbs to King Solomon. These are not all written in the book of Proverbs. However, most of that book is said to be the proverbs of Solomon.

Listen More, Say Less...

The Word For Today...

'Be...[a ready listener].' James 1:19

Talking instead of listening-will get you into trouble. Two geese were preparing to fly south when a frog asked if he could go along. They questioned how he could do it. 'Easy,' he said. 'You guys hold a stick between your beaks and I'll hang on with my mouth.' Off they went as people looked up, admiring their teamwork. The trio was making great progress until somebody below shouted, 'Great idea! Whose was it?' That's when the frog opened his mouth and yelled, 'Miiiiiiiine!' Every time you open your mouth there are consequences! So learn to listen. Plutarch said, 'The talkative listen to no one, for they are ever speaking. And the first evil that attends those who know not how to be silent is that they hear nothing.' Listening without having to air your knowledge or interject your opinion is a quality of character that proves you're mature.

Larry King once said, 'I remind myself every morning: nothing I say this day will teach me anything. So if I'm going to learn, I must do it by listening.' Jesus was a great listener, and as a result He attracted people like a magnet. Doubtless there were times He was tired and didn't feel like it-but He listened anyway. When the disciples fussed among themselves, and the Pharisees grumbled and caused trouble, Jesus focused on the important things. He listened, He spoke, and people followed. Listening is often more effective than talking. In fact, there's a point in every conversation where you need to say less and listen more. In those moments you not only hear what others are saying, but what God is saying to you!

Worship Leaders, Choristers, Do You Rehearse Even After the Congregation Comes In? Stop It.

Worship leaders are an incredibly important part of today’s church. But from time to time, I take them to task. Today I have a different issue. I’ve visited a number of churches this year that on Sunday mornings allow the worship team to continue rehearsals after the doors are open for the congregation. As a musician, I understand the need to tweak rehearsals until you get it right. But here’s why—for most churches—it’s a mistake for the congregation to watch the rehearsal:

The difference in attitude. During rehearsal, your attitude isn’t on worship, it’s on getting the music right. As a result, you’re thinking about audio levels, the mix, the band, the monitor levels and more. You’re fine tuning the music so once the real worship service starts, you can focus on God.
But most of the congregation doesn’t understand this. So when they watch rehearsal and see you stop and start, walking around and adjusting things, they assume your attitude about worship is flippant and shallow. Plus, when they see the dramatic difference between your rehearsal attitude and your worship service attitude, they think it’s hypocritical.

Obviously, many in the congregation or audience today understand the difference. But from experience, I can tell you that enough don’t that it can create perception issues that grow into real problems.
And that’s not all—in one church, one of the men wore a tank top undershirt during the rehearsal, and a woman did it in curlers. Not exactly the kind of look that gets church members into a attitude of worship.

Worship leaders—be the leader of your team. If they need to start rehearsal earlier, then do it. Think about the image, attitude and spiritual demeanor you’re projecting when people are watching. In most cases, the worship team is the first step a congregation takes into the presence of God.
Don’t let your team’s desire to sleep late hurt the worship experience for the very people you’re trying to reach. Its my personal perspective and I hope I'm right.
Enjoy the rest of the week.

It's Time to Take Action (3)

'They go from strength to strength.' Psalms 84:7

The three essential steps to success are: 1) Do something; 2) Do something today; 3) Do something every day. One personal growth expert says, 'We read about people who sail around the world in a thirty-foot sailboat or overcome handicaps to win a gold medal at the Olympics, and we later find their stories are all about persistence.' If you want to know your future, look at your daily routine. You don't determine your future, you determine your habits and your habits determine your future. The secret to success lies in doing the right things day after day. If you do that, you will eventually succeed. But a word of caution: important priorities have a way of slipping out of place while you're focused on less important things. Some sacrifices are simply not worth it:

1) In your attempt to build a reputation, don't lose your character. Reputation is what people think you are; character is what God and those closest to you know you are.

2) Don't sacrifice your family for your career. If you do you'll end up winning the admiration of those who don't matter, while losing the love of those who do.

3) Don't sacrifice your relationship with God for material things. God told His people, 'You may say to yourself, "My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me." But remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the ability to produce wealth...If you ever forget the Lord...you will surely be destroyed' (Deuteronomy 8:17-18 NIV).

It's Time to Take Action (2)

TWFT:
'His heart is established; he will not be afraid.' Psalms 112:8

Cartoonist Jonny Hawkins drew a sketch of five board members sitting around a table at the annual church business meeting. One says, 'I see our church's biggest problems as communication and procrastination.' To which a fellow board member replies, 'I vote that we postpone this discussion till next year.' We smile, but you know it's the truth, don't you? In yesterday's daily devotion we discovered that the first step to success is: Do something! Now let's discuss the second step:
2) Do something today.
Runner, author and cardiologist George Sheehan puts it this way: 'There are those of us who are always about to live. We are waiting until things change, until there is more time, until we are less tired, until we get a promotion, until we settle down-until, until, until. It always seems as if there is some major event that must occur in our lives before we begin living.' If you want to achieve your God-given dream, you can't allow yourself to be one of those people! 'How can I avoid it?' you ask. By doing something that will move you forward today!
You can't fulfil your dream all at once. You have to get there in steps, and the only time you can actually take a step is-today. German philosopher Johann Wolfgang von Goethe said, 'Each indecision brings its own delays, and days are lost lamenting over lost days... What you can do, or think you can do, begin it. For boldness has power and genius in it.' So before the sun sets today, do something that will move you further toward your dream.

It's Time to Take Action (1)

The WOrd For Today...

'The righteous are as bold as a lion.' Proverbs 28:1

John Ruskin said, 'What we think, or what we know, or what we believe is, in the end, of little consequence. The only consequence is what we do.' If you're serious about succeeding at what you believe God called you to do, you must take three steps: 1) Do something! Sir Edmund Burke said, 'Nobody made a greater mistake, than he who did nothing because he could do only a little.' Praying, planning and deliberating are all good, but there comes a point when you have to step out in faith and act. And if you're naturally sedentary or easily discouraged, you'll have to confront your fear and reluctance and take that first step.
Declaration of Independence signer John Hancock said, 'All worthwhile men have good thoughts, good ideas and good intentions, but precious few of them ever translate those into action.' God promised to part the waters of the Jordan River so that His people could go through and enter the Promised Land. But the waters parted only after they stepped in (Joshua 3:11-17). The same principle applies to you. In the beginning you just need to get moving. Try different things. It's easier to start doing something right if you've already started doing something. It's easy to steer a car when it's moving forward, but almost impossible when it's standing still. Dennis Bakke, co-founder and former CEO of global energy supplier AES Corporation, said, 'We try a bunch of stuff... see what works...and call that our strategy.' In other words, if you don't know exactly what to do, don't let it keep you from doing something.

Happy Sunday!

Things Change, but God Doesn't!

'Find enjoyment in...all the days which God gives.' Ecclesiastes 5 :18

Over one hundred times in Scripture we read, 'It came to pass.' That's because most things in life aren't permanent. Things change, but God doesn't! Knowing that can help you to handle the bad times and stop you from clinging so tightly to the good ones. Here are three important truths to keep in mind:

1) Enjoy today. It's a gift-that's why it's called 'the present'. Solomon said, 'To enjoy your work and accept your lot in life...is...a gift from God' (v. 19 NLT). Even though you are constantly moving toward another goal or objective, learn to live in the present. Don't put your joy on hold, or let it slip away while you're waiting for the next big event.

2) Learn to appreciate the little things. They're all around you: the love of a good friend, a kind deed, a fresh insight, a good night's sleep, the delight on your child's face. When you appreciate what you have, it multiplies. When you're grateful for the little things, God will give you more to appreciate (Matthew 25:23).

3) Each ending brings a new beginning. There are two myths you should never believe. The first is the 'forever myth', which says your situation will never improve. The second is the 'never myth', which says if things get any worse you'll never be able to handle them. Both are distortions. God's Word says everything comes 'to pass'. And while you're going through it, He promises to 'strengthen...and help you' (Isaiah 41:10 NIV). Yes, this ending will bring your new beginning. So keep trusting God.

Family Group THE SHOWERS’ “Better” Radio Single Hits Top 40 on Gospel Charts

Comprised of ten real life siblings, THE SHOWERS are the latest family collective to take the gospel music industry by storm. Quickly likened to the genre's prized family acts such as The Winans, The Hawkins and more, the Louisiana natives are rising high with their second radio single "Better" (written and produced by Deon Kipping) cracking the MediaBase Gospel Radio Chart Top 40.

The tune has garnered growing acclaim from fellow gospel artists, industry tastemakers, and listeners since its Top 30 debut on iTunes Christian/Gospel Chart. Layered in the family group’s full harmonies and heart-tugging vocals, the song shines for its lyrics that tell chronicle every Christian’s desire to be more like Christ and to simply be better.

"Better" is the follow-up radio single to the groups first single "Praise Your Way Through" that peaked in the Top 30 on the Mediabase Gospel Radio Chart. The success of their singles garnered the group high profile performances and appearances on the nationally televised " Bobby Jones Gospel Show" on BET, 'Gospel Goes to Hollywood Oscar event', 'I Hear Music In the Air Concert' and an upcoming appearance on the WORD Network.

The Showers will release a concept music video of "Better" in the coming month and will continue promoting the single across the country. Their self-titled national debut album will release in 2015 on their family owned independent label A&P Records.

"Better" is available on iTunes and the official lyric video (over 65,000 views) can be viewed and shared on youtube.

:::::::GREAT TRUTHS:::::::::

ABOUT GROWING OLD :
Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional.
Forget the health food. You need all the preservatives you can get.
When you fall down, you wonder what else you can do while you're down there.
You're getting old when you get the same sensation from a rocking chair that you once got from a roller coaster.
It's frustrating when you know all the answers but nobody bothers to ask you the questions.
Time may be a great healer, but it's a lousy beautician.
Wisdom comes with age, but sometimes age comes alone.
Eventually you will reach a point when you stop lying about your age and start bragging about it.
The older we get, the fewer things seem worth waiting in line for.
When you are dissatisfied and would like to go back to youth, think of Algebra.
I don't know how I got over the hill without getting to the top.
Long ago when men cursed and beat the ground with sticks, it was called witchcraft. Today it's called golf.
If you don't learn to laugh at trouble, you won't have anything to laugh at when you are old.
I finally got my head together; now my body is falling apart.
Funny, I don't remember being absent minded...

THE FOUR STAGES OF LIFE:

You believe in Father Christmas
You don't believe in Father Christmas
You are Father Christmas
You look like Father Christmas.

Content but Discontent

I heard a sermon at church about God's promise of strength for daily living. The main verses the message was based on were Phillipians 4:10-13. While we know that in a way, we should never be content (we sell ourselves short if we become complacent; we should always be longing to have a closer relationship with God and eager to do more good for others in the name of Jesus Christ), Christians at the same time do have a contentment so long as they hold to Christ for everything. Knowing that nothing can separate us from the love of God gives us the ability to not be discontented by our circumstances. I am reminded of Romans 8:38-39.

Our opportunity to draw closer to God and do good for others is a privilege. The sort of discontentment that motivates us to not miss this opportunity is different from discontentment that results from negative circumstances. It is a source of joy because though we were the lowest of the low, God has chosen us to be His children and called us to be involved in His holy work (Ephesians 2:10).

Guess what? Life Goes on

Here are some quotes about moving on that I think are quite good. We all know that life ain’t all rainbows and sunshine, and that sometimes, we’re going to go through some rough patches. It happens to all of us. Whether it’s a breakup of a long relationship or a death or some mistake we made in the past, these things are often hard to let go. You need to keep in mind however, that as time passes, the pain will slowly fade. Only you know when is the right time to move on but just keep in mind that another day spent in sorrow is another day you’ll be robbing yourself of joy. Life goes on folks and eventually, you will have to as well.

If you know of any good moving on quotes to help others going through a hard time to move on, please share them down below. Thanks!

The Purpose of Human Life....

Once a group of 50 people was attending a seminar.
Suddenly the speaker stopped and started giving each person a balloon. Each one was asked to write his/her name on it using a marker pen. Then all the balloons were collected and put in another room.

Now these delegates were let in that room and asked to find the balloon which had their name written, within 5 minutes. Everyone was frantically searching for their name, pushing, colliding with each other, and there was utter chaos. At the end of 5 minutes, no one could find their own balloon.

Now each one was asked to randomly collect a balloon and give it to the person whose name was written on it. Within minutes everyone had their own balloon.

The speaker began: This is exactly happening in our lives. Everyone is frantically looking for happiness all around, not knowing where it is. Our happiness lies in the happiness of other people. Give them their happiness, you will get your own happiness.

And this is the purpose of human life..

PIGES STIN ERIMOS set for AWAKE!

............SPRINGS IN THE DESERT..............
Isa.41:18-19,49:10-13,Col.4:3,Psa.67:5-7;Matt.15:33

God has a quick work to do; however, none of His work can be done by immortal beings (Eph 2:10). A dispensation of grace has therefore been committed into our care, and we must be careful what we do with it.
The Lord impressed upon our heart a burden to create an avenue for Worship,Word and Prayer, to provoke the Power of God over our personal, corporate and kingdom lives.

We believe this meeting will handle and fill the deficiency and spiritual void present in the body in our generation as we go from cities/towns/nations of the world,as we make the Oracles of God known everywhere.

The maiden edition of PIGES STIN ERIMOS has been tagged AWAKE (Isa 52:1-2, Ps 17:15 & Eph 5:14). This will be coming up on 12th September, 2014 by 10pm In Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. A powerful vigil of Word, Prayer and Worship.
Prepare, pray and plan to come as God is set to raise a generation for His special intended purpose in the meeting. Awesome meeting you don't want to miss.

Williams' Indigestion...

Because the other monks disturbed his
concentration, Williams left the
monastery to seek the peace he needed
to meditate.

He sat down under a birch tree on the
banks of a river and started to
meditate. But soon the 'flick-flock' of
the fish catching flies on the surface
of the water bothered him.

He tried harder to concentrate,
looking inside himself for the
tranquility necessary for fruitful
mediation. But he could not succeed,
because the birds that lived in the
birch tree began singing.

Furious, Williams jumped up, caught
all the fish in the river, and then
caught all the birds in the birch tree.
He cooked them all and ate them.

Unfortunately, Williams developed
indigestion because of his feast, which
prevented him from meditating for the
next three days.

OAU: UJCM New Beginning Commences As Awo Boys Storm Amphi.

Awo Boys (the funny inhabitants of the male hostel- Awolowo Hall) stormed Amphi Theatre, venue for the UJCM drama night. This is not a surprise as its the practice of these "unique" set of students to attend programmes like these, not particularly for the programme's intended purpose ....but to induce their funny, sometimes absurd comments to the UJCM drama live performance.
Every start of the session, the University Joint Christian Mission (UJCM); a conglomeration of the Christian fellowships on OAU campus as I can describe it. The theme for this tenure is Agapate Allelous (love one another, Jh 13:34) which started from Sept. 3 with Agape Demonstrated (Drama night) -to show love at work and our love walk, in drama ministrations
Sept. 4: Agape Proclaimed (Word Night) -to minister to the saints on the love of God, and how we should walk in love.

The programme continues with Agape Revealed (Choir Night) -to minister God's love in songs ministrations, 10pm on Sept. 5.
Agape Defined (Saturday humanitarian service) -to practice love to the campus community by mobilizing all believers for general cleaning on Sept.6 and Agape Personified (Thanksgiving service) on Sept.7 all at Amphi Theatre.

Its the new commandment for the new session...LOVE

FUNNY BUT WISE AFRICAN SAYINGS

My experience with African books and authors like Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe, Americanah, Purple Hibiscus, Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Petals of Blood by Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o, So Long a Letter by Mariama Bâ, Cry, the Beloved Country by Alan Paton and Open City by Teju Cole with a host of others have been soaked with African proverbs and awesome quotes related to the african setting. I've got some humorous proverbs here that will make you smile and perhaps, they will make you laugh but be sure to read between the lines because each carries life lessons lumped in few words. Here are they;
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers. (Uganda)

Don’t mistake a short man for a boy. (Nigeria)

He who has diarrhea knows the direction of the door without being told. (Uganda)

Just because you have been stung by a bee doesn’t mean you destroy all beehives. (Kenya)

Anger, no matter how hot it is, can never cook yam. (Nigeria)

You have to be careful to kill a fly that is perched on your scrotum. (Ghana)

If the throat can swallow a knife, the anus must find a way of expelling it. (Africa)

A goat’s frown cannot stop it from being taken to the market. (Nigeria)

Experience is a comb which nature gives to men when they are bald. (East Africa)

It is okay for a child to play with the mother’s breasts, but not the father’s testicles. (-Guinea)

Congratulations Eben & Jahdiel!!! The Baby Boy is Here!!

Eben with his baby boy at the hospital

It was great news for the music industry when Eben and Jadhiel tied the knots on November 30, 2013. It’s even greater news as the celebrity couple on Wednesday August 4, 2014, officially welcomed their first child.

“Mama, Na Boy”, the excited dad shared via his blackberry messenger status shortly after the bouncing baby boy’s birth yesterday, with a photo of him at the hospital with the child.

How sweet! We’re sure Eben and Jahdiel will make great parents to their lil’ prince.

Big congratulations from E-Testifies...

Anita Oyakhilome's lawyers say marriage is "irretrievable".

For over 2 decades, Chris and Anita Oyakhilome {President and Vice-President of the Believers Love World, better known as Christ Embassy} made the list of Nigeria’s most celebrated couples till last week when news broke out of their separation. Rev. Anita Oyakhilome had filed for divorce from her estranged husband Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, citing irreconcilable differences bordering on alleged adultery and misbehavior. The case with suit no. FD14D01650 was filed on 9th April 2014 at Divorce Section A, Central Family Court, First Avenue House, High Holborn in London.

Attwaters Jameson Hill Solicitors, a UK-based full-service law firm on the matter and this was their reply;
“It is with great sadness that our client, Pastor Anita Oyakhilome, has come to the conclusion that her marriage to Pastor Christian Oyakhilome has irretrievably broken down and regrettably there is no hope of any reconciliation. We can confirm that Pastor Anita Oyakhilome has commenced divorce proceedings in London as she resides in the UK"
*I wish them all the best,no one deserves to stay in a situation that makes them unhappy…however the ministry goes on,the word of God cannot be silenced and God uses broken people to preach his word so nobody should judge them just because their marriage has crashed!

Attwaters Jameson Hill Solicitors, after news broke that she had filed for divorce, to enquire whether any out-of-court settlement option was being explored.

In their response on Tuesday, her attorneys said there was no chance the estranged couple would ever live as husband and wife again.

From early this year, there had been speculation that the marriage between Mr Oyakhilome, the founder of Believers Love World (aka Christ Embassy), and his wife, who is also Vice-president of the ministry, was collapsing.

Some church members even set up a Facebook page, “Where is Rev Anita Oyakhilome”, in May dedicated to addressing the issue.

The church initially denied reports that the couple were estranged and possibly divorcing.

Pastor Chris has denied the allegations. He however warned church members against analyzing his problem with his wife adding that the church is not a political party.

He said his wife is a bitter and angry woman who is being influenced by bad friends who are out to seek his downfall.

As the divorce battle rages, Mrs. Oyakhilome’s profile has been pulled down from the church’s website.

Peace in a sure Promise.

Of course! There have been instances of a woman waiting for a man for years before they finally get together. Its nothing new.
When you have concluded that your intended is the best for you, there is this strength and will to wait even till the end of the world for that person.

Trouble begins when you begin to meet people with finer qualities and quantities than your intended and they want you. This is where the test of faithfulness comes. And since you haven't been bound by any particular sacrament...how easy it is to give in without remorse to the better package.

But there is a promise that flows from glory and majesty...there is a package that flows from the very throne of God...there is a man God intends for you as his daughter and a woman for his son. He may not be the richest or finest or most eloquent you have met in life but he is the best for you...because God said so. And to choose by your own discretion is a fatal error. You don't see the next moment...your own choice may have an accident and be crippled for the rest of his life...he may die young leaving you to take care of three kids...his interest in you may wear out...he may lose his job and the subsequent ones may never measure up to the one that caught your eye in the first place...in short, his best may be the status you were attracted to after which he begins to decelerate in life.

Of course...tragedies happen even to those who marry within Gods design. But herein lies the difference...they are not alone! With God, they can leap over walls of obstacles and they can rout whole legions. You can't...because you are on your own.
There is a peace in following Gods will no matter how absurd it seems at the time. He is not imprudent. He has considered every detail of your life before coming to His conclusion for you. What have you considered? What do you even know to consider?

Trust in the Lord and lean not on your own understanding.
God help us. Amen. -Adepoju Aderonke

JUST A PHONE CALL....did it

MY Testimony
Hi, i am Rose (Not real name). I just want to share what God has done in my life and i
hope that this will encourage all young graduates out there.

Its been years since i got born again though backsliding at times but God is a merciful and loving God. After completing my National Diploma in Biotechnology, i started hunting for a job, i stayed at home for 5 months while my friends were doing their post studies and others working. It was stressful as i thought i will immediately find a job and atleast help out at home as my mother is not working and my dad earns just enough to buy food.

I kept applying for jobs for the whole 5 months almost on a daily basis. I got rejected in each and every job i applied to. One sunday in a taxi on my way to church, i logged on facebook checking updates, an old friend just asked how i was doing and i just felt the urge of telling her about the hardship of job hunting. She gave me her uncles number who is a Gynecologist to explain my situation and maybe he might help, i called him and he could not help. I kept reading the bible at times, praying and going to church, i felt as though God was away from me because whenever i checked my emails, all i saw was application regrets. I eventually gave up, stopped praying and for
2 weeks, i didn't go to church. It was overwhelming! On one thursday i got a call from the gynecologist inviting me to a day at his laboratory. I went there and saw what they did. After few hours of the laboratory tour he called me at his office and offered me a 6 months learnership at his clinic and a next year he is taking me back to school to study Medical Biotechnology for a year 'everything paid' and i will then have a secure job there I knew on that second that God just showered me with blessings that i felt they were beyond what i asked for. GOD showed me His grace and mercy. The blood of Jesus really is doing wonders. I got a learnership, bursary and future secured job without any application just a phone call. GOD is amazing, He will never leave nor forsake us, He is a faithful God. Mark 11 vs 24. :-)

#Blessed beyond measure# Trust in Him, He will never disappoint.
