"How you see the world. How you deal with it. That determines your real wealth." – God (from the 'Joan of Arcadia' TV series) One day, the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the express purpose of showing him how poor people live. They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family. On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, "How was the trip?" "It was great, Dad." "Did you see how poor people live?" the father asked. "Oh yeah," said the son. "So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip?", asked the father The son answered: "I saw that we have one dog and they had four. The boy's father was speechless. Then his son added... "Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are." ...When my mom first sent me this story, I was touched and I'm grateful to pass it along to you as well. |

Where Is Your Treasure?
Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:21 NIV)
The Bible says, “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:21 NIV).
So where is your heart today? It’s simple, really. It’s wherever you put your money. Some of you, your heart is in your home, because that’s where you put your money. Maybe your heart’s in your boat. Or your cabin. Or that car you love.
Wherever you put your money, that’s where your heart is going to go. Do you want to get interested in the Coca-Cola Company? Buy some stock. The moment you buy some stock, you’re going to be very interested in the stock price of Coca-Cola. If your treasure is not there, you couldn’t care less about Coca-Cola stock.
Where you put your money and your time reveals your priorities. You can say you love Jesus, but if you don’t spend any time with him, then you don’t love him as much as you think you do. You say you love your kids, but do you spend time with your kids? No? Then you don’t really love them the way you think you do. You can say you love to be in shape, but do you work out? No? Then you don’t really love being in shape.
The point is, it’s not about what you say. Here’s how you know what’s really important to people: Look at their calendar, and look at their bank statement. The way we spend our time and the way we spend our money says what’s really important to us.
You can say, “This is really important to me,” but if you don’t spend time on it and you don’t spend money on it, your heart isn’t really there.
When you give to God, guess where your heart goes? It goes toward God. It draws you closer. It’s an act of worship.

Short Story; A Miser's Death
From Heart of the Enlightened By Anthony de Mello
A miser had accumulated five hundred thousand dinars and looked forward to a year of pleasant living before he made up his mind how best to invest his money, when suddenly the Angel of Death appeared before him to take his life away.
The man begged and pleaded and used a thousand arguments to be allowed to live a little longer, but the angel was obdurate. "Give me three days of life and I shall give you half my fortune," the man pleaded. The angel wouldn't hear of it and began to tug at him.
"Give me just one day, I beg of you, and you can have everything I accumlated through so much sweat and toil."
The angel was adamant still.
He was able to wring just one little concession from the angel-a few moments in which to write down this note:

"Oh you, whoever you are that happen to find this note, if you have enough to live on, don't waste your life accumulating fortunes. Live!
My five hundred thousand dinars could not buy me a single hour of life!"
Reflection Questions
- If you only had one hour of life left, what would it be worth to you?
- What if you only had one year left instead?
- If you were the miser, what would you have written in the note?

Set Yourself Free from People Pleasing
Word For Today
‘…We ought to obey God rather than men.’ Acts 5:29 AKJV
Too often our actions are dictated by a misguided need to please others. We care so much about what they think that with every step we take we look over our shoulder to see whether they’re smiling or frowning. Understand this: if you’re always looking for people’s approval, you’re not looking where you’re going and eventually you’ll hit a wall or trip over your own two feet. The Bible says, ‘…We ought to obey God rather than men.’ What do you think will happen if you open your mouth and stand up for yourself? The truth is that people who don’t respect your rights and honour your wishes are not worth your time or effort. Nor are they worthy of a long-drawn-out discussion; just say goodbye! (We’re not talking about your marriage or children.) When the land became too small for the flocks of Abraham and Lot to graze together, strife broke out.
Abraham loved his nephew Lot, but he realised he could no longer live in this situation. So he said, ‘…Please separate from me. If you take the left, then I will go to the right; or, if you go to the right, then I will go to the left’ (Genesis 13:9 NKJV). How does their story end? Lot chose the best grazing land close to Sodom, and as a result everything he worked for went up in smoke. But Abraham, who always sought to please God, ended up not only being blessed himself, but being a blessing to the nations of the world. So the word for you today is—God wants to set you free from people pleasing.

Cakes That Rise...
A little boy was watching his
grandmother, a large woman of 63 years
of age, making cakes. She treated the
boy as her own son.
She kneaded the small pile of dough,
put it in the oven and miraculously,
through the window he saw the dough
inflate until it was ready and cooked.
From time to time, a cake doesn't
rise. It remains flat and dry.
"Mama, why are these cakes like that?"
She smiled, took him in her arms and
looking straight into his eyes, said -
"You see my boy, cakes are like men.
There are those who are successful and
rise up. Others who end up flat and dry
their whole life."

The Word For Today
‘…so the power of God could be seen in him.’
John 9:3 NLT
When Jesus encountered a blind man, His disciples immediately began to discuss the reason for the man’s condition. They asked Jesus, ‘Was this man’s blindness the result of his own sins, or the sins of his parents?’ Jesus answered, ‘[He was born blind] so the power of God could be seen in him.’ Notice four things:
1) The disciples were eager to attribute the man’s problem to his sin. And satan will try to convince you that because of your sin you’re disqualified from God’s grace, but you’re not! God doesn’t examine your past to decide your future.
2) When Jesus healed him, the neighbours were more interested in debating than celebrating—and not much has changed! They started asking, ‘“…Isn’t this the man who used to sit and beg?” Some said he was…others said, “No…”’ (vv 8-9 NLT).
3) His healing failed the ‘religiosity test’ because the Pharisees said, “…This man Jesus is not from God…working on the Sabbath…”’ (v 16 NLT).
4) Even the man’s parents weren’t free to praise God, because ‘…anyone saying Jesus was the Messiah would be expelled from the synagogue’ (v. 22 NLT). To the neighbours he was a misfit, to church leaders he was a topic of debate, to his parents he was a social stigma, so they ‘…threw him out’ (v 34 NIV).
End of story? Thank God—no! ‘Jesus…went and found him…[and]…said, “I came…so that those who have never seen will see…”’ (vv 35, 39 TM). So instead of rehashing your problem and listening to other people’s opinions, take it to the Lord in prayer. When you share it with others, the best you’ll get is sympathy, but when you share it with Jesus you’ll get a solution.

The Power Of Vision
The Word For Today
'I will instruct you...in the way you should go.' Psalm 32:8 NKJV
Mother Teresa didn’t set out searching for fame; it found her. She simply went to India, found a need no one else was meeting, heard the call of God, allowed her heart to be consumed by it, and ministered to multitudes of the world’s most neglected and forgotten people in the slums of Calcutta.
One of her most famous slogans was, ‘A life not lived for others is not a life at all.’ Let’s face it; much of what we do each day doesn’t seem to matter until it’s evaluated as part of a larger picture. When you take the minutiae of any given day, drop it into the cauldron of a God–ordained vision and stir it around, suddenly there’s purpose, worth, adrenaline and the joy that comes from knowing you’re fulfilling your destiny. It’s like the difference between filling bags with dirt and building a levee to save a town. There’s nothing glamorous about filling sandbags, but saving a town from the ravages of a flood is another matter entirely.
Building a levee gives meaning to the drudgery of shovelling dirt into sandbags. And it’s like that with your vision.
Many times the everyday routine of life can feel like shovelling dirt. But take those same routines and view them through the lens of a God–given purpose, and suddenly everything looks very different. Vision brings your world into focus. It brings order and purpose out of chaos. It enables you to see everything in a fresh light. And the good news is that God is the giver of visions—so ask Him for one!

Defeating or Winning?
A few years ago, during the Para-Olympics
held in Seattle, nine participants, all mentally
retarded or physically challenged, had aligned
themselves for the 100 meter hurdles.
Although at the given signal they didn't
start exactly at that moment, nor orderly, they
were determined to finish the race and thus win.
All they had to do in order to win the race was
to finish it.
All managed to finish it, except for a
young athlete that fell over the runway passage
of the first hedge. Because of the pain and of
the sorrow, he began to cry. The others hearing
his cry came back for him. They slowed down and
eventually they stopped.
In that day an unprecedented situation
occurred, eight out of the nine athletes
returned in order to help the ninth athlete,
which was in need of assistance. A girl with
the down syndrome came up to the wounded to
give him a kiss and to encourage him:
"Do not worry, the pain will go away."
Although that day the world record was not
beaten from any point of view, but the race was
finished by all nice athletes which past the
finish line together, holding each other with
their arms.
The whole stadium stood up and cheered
them for several minutes. They were even more
enthusiastic in the presence of such a wonderful
gesture than when a record was beaten.
Why was this possible?
Because we all know well, that basically,
the most important thing in this life is not
so much winning by yourself, but helping others
to win as well, even if you have to slow down
and maybe turn back to help others.

How To Overcome Perfectionism
The Word For Today
‘…think about the things that are good…’
Philippians 4:8 NCV
Be honest: Have you ever met a perfectionist who was truly happy? No, because when things must always ‘be a certain way’, life becomes miserable because it’s constantly changing. As soon as you solve one problem, another comes along.
Instead of dwelling on their blessings and being grateful, perfectionists focus on what’s wrong and why they need to fix it. It may be a job they did that was less than perfect, a few pounds they need to lose, or even a disorganised wardrobe. Or it could be someone else’s imperfections: the way they live their life, how they behave, or the way they look. Constantly dwelling on flaws—your own or someone else’s—makes it impossible to be grateful. And gratitude is at the core of happiness.
Now, let’s be clear; we’re not talking about striving to do better. That’s a good thing. We’re talking about obsessing over what’s wrong. There’ll always be a better way to do something, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy life the way it is right now. So what’s the cure? Catch yourself before you fall into the trap of insisting that things should be different from how they are. Stop and remind yourself that, in the absence of your judgment, everything will work out just fine.
Paul says, ‘…in all things God works for the good of those who love him…’ (Romans 8:28 NIV). Are you getting it? God’s in control; it’s okay for you to let go. Instead of focusing on the negative, ‘think about the things that are good and worthy of praise’. When you do, you’ll begin to discover how wonderful life is.

About the song; When troubles come my way...@adenuga_wale
Good day folks,
I stumbled on this short piece believed to be written by Songwriter and Singer Wale Adenuga. It reminds me of our hearts disposition when we sing this part. Do you change it to "when Success comes my way" or just sing the usual line casually? Here's an experience by Wale Adenuga;
"I have written a number of songs. But the most popular of them has been Today O! And it's probably the most contentious too. That's because some people don't find it comfortable singing "when troubles come my way".
So it was refreshing when I was contacted by Kent Brantly for permission to have the lyrics of the song published in his new book, CALLED FOR LIFE.
Kent, a medical missionary in Liberia had contracted Ebola. He was the first person with Ebola to be treated in the US when he was evacuated to Emory University.
Dr. Brantly writes "I had marvelled at hearing Liberians sing that song at the top of their lungs, with full recognition of its meaning as they concluded with "When troubles come my way, I will praise you Lord." As they sang, I tried to imagine all the suffering they had endured, with the civil wars...
Reading this humbles me and makes me grateful that God would use me to etch those words."
